Pirate's Ashore in Plymouth

A unique event unlike any others in downtown Plymouth, Pirates Ashore in Plymouth is an exciting, educational, all-day reenactment of the visit of three pirate ships to Plymouth in May of 1646 as described in Governor William Bradford’s “Of Plimoth Plantation”.

The “pirates” were English privateers, just back from capturing a number of Spanish ships in the Caribbean, flush with cargo and cash. The ships were welcomed to Plymouth and stayed for about a month spending money freely, drinking, and fighting. One particular fight resulted in the death of a sailor and the trial of the privateer Captain for murder!

Joining the New Plimmoth Gard as English privateers will be local maritime reenactor groups The Crew of the MermaydeThe Crew of the Raven and the Free Men of the Sea

The day starts with Old Colony Club members firing their cannon to signal the arrival of the privateers. Visitors are welcomed to The Mayflower Society grounds 10 AM to 4 PM to meet the pirates causing trouble in Plymouth Colony. The house will be open for tours. A detailed schedule of the days events will be available soon.
