The Farmer's House

www.thefarmershouse.org

Our mission is to embrace, enhance and support the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities (our Farmers). Our goal is to help each Farmer increase their self-reliance, gain vocational skills and encourage positive social interactions. This is accomplished by providing innovative community integration, employment services and vocational experiences. Program activities take place throughout the community and in three locations which include retail markets, catering services, a farm setting and coming soon, a café to our downtown Weston, MO location.  Our retail markets are located in Westwood, KS and Weston, MO.

Our Westwood Market, located at 4740 Rainbow Blvd, is a great shopping and soon to be art destination. Stocked full of great finds and our specialty goods for local shoppers, this location also serves as a program space for our Farmers living in south Kansas City.  Farmers engage in vocation skill development and community engagement activities. Soon, visitors to the Rainbow Boulevard location will see an expanding art focus with spinning wheels, looms and kilns filling the program space as our Farmers create fiber and pottery pieces for display and if you are lucky, to purchase.

We have two locations in Weston, MO – A retail market in historic downtown and “the Farm.”  “The Farm” includes a retail market, the Farm to Fork commercial kitchen and community gardens.  It is where our programs originated, where our Farmers gain social enrichment and vocational skills and where families from near and far come for a great experience. A seasonal operation, the Farm is located off Highway 273 in what was formally Vaughn’s Apple Orchard.  We kick off the Farm’s reopening each year in April with a huge bedding plant sale. Our retail market is open all week. During peak harvest season, we embrace and celebrate the many festivals held in Weston Missouri. Weekends at the farm are family-friendly and include live bluegrass bands playing on the porch. Visitors enjoy a fun atmosphere, great shopping and delicious food.  We are known for our hot apple fritters and apple slushies.

Our Historic Downtown Weston Market, located at 415 Main Street, includes a retail market, commercial kitchen and (starting in March) a café. This location is open year-round, 7 days a week. During weekdays, it serves as a vocational experience space for our Farmers who are preparing for their transition from high school.

Friends of JCDS

www.friendsofjcds.org

At its heart, Friends of JCDS, Inc. is about helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve success in the community, whether it’s providing accessible and affordable housing or helping with basic needs. We provide additional supports to individuals that receive any direct service from Johnson County Developmental Supports. As a stand alone non-profit, that means we operate independently from the  county agency, but provide resources that they cannot. The two main resources we provide are accessible and affordable housing and access to special needs funds that help pay for basic needs with individuals budgets can't. This looks like assistance with dental needs, groceries, shoes, medical devices and clothing.

Johnson County Developmental Supports

www.jocogov.org

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is the agency of Johnson County government that facilitates career and personal development for Johnson County residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

JCDS was established in 1972 through the committed efforts of parents and other developmental disability (DD) advocates. Since that time, the agency has grown as a Community Support Provider to serve over 500 people daily through a broad array of community-based programs and supports.

Designated as Johnson County's Community Developmental Disabilities Organization (CDDO), JCDS also offers a single point of entry for those seeking DD services, determines eligibility for services, and coordinates a network of over 90 Johnson County providers.

JCDS also benefits from the support of a separate “Friends of JCDS” organization dedicated to providing additional resources for priority client and community-centered projects where other funding is not available.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City

rmhckc.org

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City (RMHC-KC) is to reduce the burden of childhood illness on sick children and their families. We accomplish this by:

Providing comfortable lodging convenient to local health care facilities

Creating a caring and uplifting environment

Undertaking resource and fund development activities that support our facilities, programs, and services Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City alleviates the worry and expense of finding a close, comfortable and affordable place for a family to stay while their child receives the medical care they need. That can make a world of difference to a child bravely battling an illness or recovering from a serious injury. It costs RMHC-KC $100 a night to house a family.

All families at RMHC-KC are caring for a critically ill child; the families we serve also have diverse backgrounds, experiences and cultures.

RMHC-KC is committed to providing a culturally and psychologically safe environment for everyone associated with our charity: guest families, visitors, volunteers, staff, donors, vendors and partners.

All are welcome here, and we celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion in our spaces.

We are proud we have served Kansas City families fighting childhood illness since 1981. Please enjoy our 40 year anniversary video, which gives a snapshot of our accomplishments, as well as our 35 year anniversary video, which gives a deeper dive into our history!
