Maintenance Worker II
Merriam, KS
Description:  

The City of Merriam Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker II.   The qualified applicant will be responsible for performing a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and will operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City Street and storm drainage facilities and systems. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Inspect/repair streets, drainage systems and signs to ensure proper functioning; maintain records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply and consumption; determine the location of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines prior to excavation; respond to complaints regarding traffic signals, street signs, drainage problems, sidewalks, curbs and gutter and explain findings to supervisor; drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, gravel, sand and salt in a variety of weather conditions. Will perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.

Requirements:  
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Three (3) years Public Works or construction related experience

  • One (1) year concrete/asphalt experience

  • One (1) year equipment operating experience

  • Must have valid State Driver’s license and Class B CDL.

  • Must have or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 60 days of hire.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities. 

  • Must have valid State Driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License certification; or the ability to obtain a CDL within 8 weeks from hire date.
