Bristol VA October 1, 2016 – Waiting to Hear, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping deaf children hear is hosting the LOUD Shirt Gala on October 21, 2016. Guests are encouraged to wear their most colorful island attire in an effort to “Get Loud, to give deaf kids a Voice!” The event features Caribbean food, the Jimmy Buffett inspired sounds of the Key West Band’s Michael Armstrong, and a silent auction filled with celebrity autographed items and local treasures. Attendees will also get the chance to meet everyone’s favorite castaway: Dawn Wells who played “Mary Ann” on Gilligan’s Island. Dawn will be sharing some of her personal 8mm videos taken behind the scenes during filming of the show. Guests also get the chance to meet Nina Poersch from Survivor: Worlds Apart (the first contestant with a cochlear implant), Tanya Vance from Survivor Thailand and Travis “Bubba” Sampson from Survivor Vanuatu. Hosts for the event are Whitney Carr and Morgan King from Good Day Tri-Cities. Tickets for the event are limited and will not be sold at the door. Tickets can be purchase online for $75 ($50 under 12) until October 18 at  www.WaitingToHear.org   Proceeds from the event helps fund Waiting to Hear’s local programs that support a hearing and spoken language outcome for deaf children.
