Johnson City Public Library will host Marilyn Kallet, Knoxville’s Poet Laureate, on Thursday, March 28 from 6-8 p.m. Dr. Kallet will read selections of her poetry as well as lead a mini-workshop titled “Writing Praise Poems in Troubled Times.” This event is made possible through a partnership between the Poetry Society of Tennessee – Northeast Branch and the library.... Johnson City Public Library will hold a tech take-apart workshop on Tuesday, March 5 from 6-7 p.m. Donated technology items will be available for people ages 10 and older to disassemble and repurpose. Experts will be on hand to teach participants the safest ways to dismantle the pieces, explain how they work, and share ideas for repurposing them. The company wrapped up a year of high returns and growth in deposits and loans in key markets including Tennessee, the Mid-Atlantic and South Florida. Reported earnings per share were $1.65 in 2018, compared to $0.65 in 2017; the improvement was largely driven by the merger with Capital Bank in 2017, the gain on the sale of Visa Class B shares in 2018, and tax reform. Six-Week Coding Course for Teens at Johnson City Public Library

At the end of January, Johnson City Public Library will offer two six-week courses for teens ages 12-18 on Swift coding, which is a programming language used in millions of mobile applications. Participants register for either Monday or Friday sessions; Friday classes begin on January 25 and Monday classes start on January 28. Beginning on Monday, January 14, the Johnson City Public Library will host the Cherished Mom Perinatal Support Group every Monday from 6-7 p.m. in the library’s second floor board room. The support group is organized and led by facilitators from the Appalachian Perinatal Mental Health Alliance (APMHA).
