A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

When Charles Dickens wrote his “ghostly little tale” in 1843, he didn’t know that A Christmas Carol was destined to become one of the most beloved holiday traditions of all time. By telling this fable illustrating the unfairness of the Industrial Revolution and the necessity for brotherhood and unselfishness, Dickens gave the world one of its most enduring Christmas stories.

The Nebraska Theatre Caravan has delighted audiences nationwide with this tour since the adaptation by Charles Jones in 1979. The Caravan’s Carol, which weaves traditional Christmas carols throughout the narrative, is probably the most widely produced production of Dickens’ in the nation, annually performing for more than 100,000 people in more than 60 cities across the country. A Christmas Carol features a spirited ensemble of 23 performers who bring Dickens’ fable of redemption to life on a magical set. The colorful scenery and elaborate costumes faithfully recreate the Victorian period. Exceptional voices, lively dancing and dazzling special effects combine to create a spectacular holiday treat for the entire family.

Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey

Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey

Space the “final frontier” is the destination for Lightwire Theater’s new show and latest adventure! Flying to the moon is an idea that has captivated both children and adults for ages. Marvin the Mouse is a lovable and relatable character, but he’s not terribly popular with the “cool” rats. To escape from their bullying, Marvin retreats into his science books and a world of fantasy where he blasts off in a homemade rocket and lands on the moon. His journey of self-acceptance is portrayed with both humor and honesty as he teaches us the important message that being different is “cool.”

The musical score will include a wide variety of styles from pop to classical as well as original compositions. Parents will enjoy such classics as Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”

Lightwire Theater creates and delivers innovative theatrical experiences through its signature brand of electroluminescent artistry, poignant storytelling and evocative music scores to audiences across the globe. So get ready to experience an eye popping, lesson filled and exciting journey into space.

Clem Allison Retrospective

Tusculum College will re-open its Allison Gallery in a new location in January with a reception for J. Clement Allison. Allison, the gallery’s namesake, will be the new location’s first featured artist.

According to Wayne Thomas, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of English, the gallery has been relocated to the Shulman Center on the eastern side of the college campus. “The new location is spectacular,” said Thomas, “And, we are excited to celebrate the re-opening with an exhibition from Clem Allison.”

The first show, a retrospective exhibition of Allison’s artwork over the course of his lifetime, will be available for viewing January 18 – February 15. There is no admission fee and the event is open to the public. Additionally, a closing reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 10, from 4-7 p.m.

The Allison Gallery, named in appreciation of J. Clement Allison’s three decades of exemplary commitment to Tusculum College, was created to provide a venue for a variety of artistic experience. To further this mission, the gallery hosts the exhibitions of local and regional artists as well as exhibitions by Tusculum College’s art students.

Artists of regional and national prominence are displayed year round, providing a unique and useful tool for the college community by allowing students, faculty and staff to view and experience art from across the country without leaving the Tusculum campus.

The residents of Tusculum, Greeneville and other surrounding communities also benefit from the opportunity, provided by the Allison Gallery, to access art from across the country at a local, easy to reach location. In fact, The Allison Gallery is the only art gallery in the Greene County area containing exhibitions from a wide array of both national and local artists and one of only a few such galleries in the region.
