Art in Nature Photo Festival

Enter and view photographs in the 5th Annual Art in Nature Photo Festival. The competition is part of weekend activities held at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University. The weekend kicks off Friday evening with Flashes of Nature. Entries are displayed in the galleries of the museum. Judging takes place on Saturday night. First place winning photos are displayed at the Ward Museum for up to three months, posted on the museum’s website and winning photographers awarded great prizes. Grand Champion and First in Division winning photos are published in Ward Museum journal.

Bright Minds with Bright Futures Bookbag Giveaway

For the past six years, our non-profit organization the Extraordinary League of Gentlemen (E.L.O.G.) has hosted a bookbag giveaway to assist disadvantaged families in the area by providing basic essentials (bookbags & school supplies) for kids heading back to school in September.  Many of these kids and their families live in poverty-stricken neighborhoods, so these free bookbags eases some of the financial burden on these families during this time of the year.  Additionally, this event allows E.L.O.G. the opportunity to mentor to the kids and promote the importance of obtaining an education.  

Each year our book bag giveaway has grown, since we started back in 2010 we have blessed close to 1,500 kids with bookbags. Here are our annual totals from the previous five years:  (2014) 780 bookbags, (2013) 400 bookbags, (2012) 188 bookbags, (2011) 80 bookbags, (2010) 49 bookbags.  We’ve managed to shatter each goal we set and we hope to continue this trend.

Healing Rose 5K Run/1-Mile Walk

“Planting Seeds of Hope” is the theme for the 3rd annual Healing Rose 5K run/1-mile walk to be held on Sunday, Sept. 13, at MAC Inc., the Area Agency on Aging, in Salisbury.
Registration the day of the race begins at 7 a.m. and the run/walk steps off at 8 a.m.
All funds raised will be used locally to support the innovative Healing Rose Garden which helps cancer survivors grow their own fresh produce, and learn about healthy eating and meal preparation to boost their immune system, regain strength, and return to independence after surviving cancer. Proceeds also will be used to help with medication costs, travel costs for appointments, co-pays, guided exercise, and chiropractic care.
Entertainment, children’s activities are planned. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. Advance registration is $25 for adults and $15 for those age 12 and under; $30 and $20 the day of the race.
