Through FoodWorks, a partnership with the Maryland Food Bank, participants prepare for success in any professional food service setting. Includes 12 weeks of intensive training combined with case management support, career development classes and job placement assistance. Learn an array of cooking skills including knife cuts, recipe conversions, food safety standards and commercial kitchen equipment use and sanitation.  Students graduate with certificates from Rouxbe (Culinary Foundation 1 and 2) as well as the Serv Safe Food Handlers AND the Serv Safe Managers certification

Winter Institute: Yoga for Every Body

You don’t need experience or any special gear to enjoy yoga! Yoga instructor Ashley Hodgon wil present “Yoga for Every Body” on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at MAC as part of the 2023 Winter Institute.

Hogdon will guide the group through a very gentle set of stretches. The group will be seated with the option to do a few standing stretches as well.

Winter Institute: Beginner Enhance Fitness

Exercise improves strength, flexibility and balance and provides more long-term benefits such as less pain in arthritic joints, lower blood pressure and overall better quality of life. MAC’s Richard A. Henson Wellness Center Coordinator Tommy Robinson will lead a session of "Beginner Enhance Fitness” on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at MAC as part of the 2023 Winter Institute.

One of MAC's most popular fitness classes, “Enhance Fitness” includes major elements of fitness and has options ranging in intensity to suit the needs and fitness levels of participants.

Winter Institute: Exploring Birds, Both Real and Counterfeit

Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art Education Director Brenda Miller will offer an in-depth look at some of the displays in the museum galleries in “Exploring Birds, Both Real and Counterfeit” on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at MAC as part of the 2023 Winter Institute.

Attendees also will hear about decoy pioneers Lem and Steve Ward, and step onto the nature trail for an introductory lesson in birdwatching.

January's Paint Party at sweetFrog Salisbury

Join us for a paint class that the whole family can enjoy! It's cupcake month and we are celebrating with an adorable cupcake painting and the new My Little Cupcake froyo flavor! 

The event takes about 2 hours. It includes all art supplies, step-by-step instructions and then a kid's cup of sweetFrog to celebrate your masterpiece! (Only one visit to the toppings bar.) Both adults and children are welcome to participate!

On the day of the event, walk-ins are welcome, but a minimum number of online ticket sales must be reached for the event to be held. We will begin the painting class promptly at 6pm. This is not a drop off event, children must be accompanied by one adult.

The January General Membership Luncheon will feature Mary D. Kane, President & CEO, Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning in January, lawmakers will convene in Annapolis to consider legislative proposals –  including many that will impact business. Kane will offer a preview of the 2023 Maryland General Assembly Session.

A proven leader in state, federal and global organizations, Kane joined the Maryland Chamber of Commerce as President & CEO in October 2021. 

Kane has a rich professional history, most recently at the U.S. State Department as Director of the National Museum of American Diplomacy. An attorney, she also served as Secretary of State in Maryland from 2003-2007 and as Executive Director at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 2008-2011.
