Glassmaking was one of America's first industries, starting at Jamestown in 1608. Using examples from the collection of the Julia A. Purnell Museum, this session will explore the country's changing styles of glassware from the utiliarian items of the colonial era to the mold-blown bottles produced after the Revolutionary War to the elaborate colored glass vessels of the Victorian period.

This virtual presentation will explore the broad history of Salisbury University, from its founding in 1925 as Maryland State Normal School in Salisbury to its rapid expansions in the 21st century. University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Jen Piegols, will discuss the inception and early years of Salisbury University as well as highlight some of the major changes that have established SU as a Maryland University of National Distinction. This talk will incorporate various images and video footage from the University Archives to illuminate the history of SU.

The SACC welcomes Congressman Andy Harris as the featured speaker at the August 19, 2021 General Membership Luncheon. 

Congressman Harris represents Maryland’s First Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and serves as a member of the House Appropriations Committee. Congressman Harris will speak about the upcoming fall congressional session and federal legislation that could impact Eastern Shore businesses.        

The luncheon will take place at Green Hill Country Club in Quantico Maryland and begin at 11:30AM.    Seating is limited and tickets must be reserved in advance.

Tickets are $25 for members, $35 for future members

Take a look at the current tax environment and some of the potential changes that may occur over the coming years. Certified Financial Planner Eric Johnston will examine various tax issues related to retirees.

Summer BBQ Platters on sale; orders due Aug. 27 at noon.

Orders are now being taken for Summer BBQ platters, with proceeds to benefit MAC’s Meals on Wheels program. 

Platter choices include: BBQ chicken, $12; Pulled Pork Sandwiches, $13; and Baby Back Ribs, $15. All platters include potato salad, green beans, roll, drink and dessert.

Platters must be ordered in advance. Orders are due by noon on Friday, Aug. 27. Curbside pickup of orders is planned at MAC from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29.

The Bridge is proud to present the End Of Summer Concert with Matthew West at the Wicomico Civic Center on Saturday, Sept. 4. The show begins at 7 p.m.

West, a five-time GRAMMY nominee, will perform hits from his latest album, "Brand New," and more. He will be doing a special preshow question and answer session and playing a few additional songs as part of the very limited VIP ticket package for this concert. The SACC September 16th General Membership Luncheon will feature Mr. Tom Baxter, President and CEO of Baxter Enterprises, located in Salisbury MD.

Baxter Enterprises has been in business nearly three decades. As one of the largest McDonalds restaurant franchise owners in the on the east coast, he owned and operated 19 locations on Delmarva, with over 1,200 employess serving over $7.5 million guests per year.

Prior to becoming a McDonalds franchisee, Baxter worked with the McDonald’s Corporation for 25 years in new product development, domestically and internationally.

Mr. Baxter will share insights into the franchise industry, discuss trends in the fast food and fast casual marketplace and his experiences with the world's largest fast food giant.

Bingomania, the Eastern Shore’s largest bingo cash prize event, returns to the Wicomico Civic Center on Saturday, Sept. 18. Doors open at 5 p.m. for early bird games, and regular games begin at 7:30 p.m.

Admission to Bingomania includes all regular and special games, including the Jumbo Jackpot Game. Regular game payouts are $500, while special games will pay out $1,000. The Jumbo Jackpot Game pays a maximum of $10,000 depending upon attendance. Attendees must be 16 or older.

Tickets are $45 per person in advance and $55 per person at the door; fees may apply to ticket prices. All proceeds benefit the Mardela Middle and High School Bands.
