Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with The Greater Salisbury Committee and PACE at Salisbury University are hosting a forum between Mayor Jake Day and Mayoral challenger Wayne King.

 

This forum is open to the public and will begin at 6:00PM on Wednesday, October 23rd at Salisbury University, in the Guerrieri Student Union, Wicomico Room.

 

Admission is free and the public is invited. Seating is on a first come first serve basis.

Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 12th Annual Taste of the Town, co-hosted by the Young Professionals.

 

Taste of the Town is one of the most highly attended Chamber events of the year and is open to Chamber members and the public.

 

All Lower Shore restaurants are invited to participate in this “Iron Chef” style competition, and have a choice of entering in one of two categories.

 

The Simple Tastes category represents casual, light fare, and Signature Tastes is geared towards upscale, more refined dishes. Prizes will be awarded in each category.

 

Winners will receive a commemorative plaque, recognition in the media, a cash prize.

Walk in and sign up to speak one-on-one with a MAC State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counselor, who will help you choose the best Medicare prescription plan to suit your needs. Bring your current Medicare card and all medications in their original containers; DO NOT bring lists of medications. Quota Club Christmas Gift and Craft Show

The 33rd annual Christmas Gift and Craft Show, sponsored by Quota International of Salisbury, will return to the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Friday, Oct. 25, from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is $4 per day, and children under 12 are admitted free.

The fair features over 100 unique crafters and local vendors with a variety of items for sale, including wooden toys and other items, ceramics, hats, scarves, candles, wreaths and flower arrangements, baskets and jewelry. Santa Claus will make a special appearance on Saturday and Sunday.

Proceeds from the event are used to serve the local community.

Learn more about the exciting new Wicomico Community for Life program during the Thrive senior expo at MAC, to be held Saturday, Oct. 26.

Community for Life offers innovative options for safe and healthy aging for seniors who live in Wicomico County and wish to remain living independently in their homes. The membership program includes personalized services, including transportation assistance, and home maintenance and safety assessments, and referrals to community services as needed.

Talks about the new program will be held from 10-10:30 a.m. and from 2 to 2:30 p.m. in the Education Wing classrooms at MAC.

Thrive celebrates life after 55

Are you age 55 or older? Head to Thrive and learn more about opportunities, services and other aspects of senior life in the community!

Thrive, a free senior expo event, will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MAC in Salisbury. The event is being sponsored by MAC, and the Salisbury Independent, Holloway Funeral Home and Chesapeake Health Care.

Visitors can stop by vendor stalls, browse educational exhibits, and attend presentations, all offering information and more that’s relevant to senior living. 

Food will be available, along with door prizes and other giveaways.

A special presentation of MAC's Aging into Medicare class will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., at MAC,  as part of the Thrive senior expo.
If you are getting ready to turn 65 in the next 6 months or will be going on Medicare soon, MAC’s “Aging Into Medicare,” is for you!
Discussion will include how Medicare works, what it covers and when to apply. The free class will be presented by MAC’s State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) staff, and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

Join local birders, Ward Museun staff, and SU students and faculty as they collect data on local migrating bird population and submit that data into the Cornell Lab of Ornithology‘s eBird citizen science program. eBird provides the opportunity to collect real data for real scientific purposes. The need for this data is particularly great on the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, where numerous birds live, yet limited eBird data is collected.
