Melissa began her career in direct service care as a Lead Residential Specialist for Goodwill Columbus. She also enjoyed providing direct care to vulnerable populations in their homes as a Weatherization Building Analyst and a Parent Educator. Later, drawing on strengths in English and Communications, she obtained employment at two of the country’s major market newspapers: The Columbus Dispatch and the Cincinnati Enquirer, A Gannett Newspaper. She remained in the newspaper industry until 2007 when she joined the Area 1 Agency on Aging and Community Action organization. She stayed in the human services field for the next 15 years, proving her ability to connect and create. Melissa's passion is helping connect those facing barriers to recognize their natural supports and resources while advocating for sustainable changes in policies that affect those who historically have not had a voice. Melissa proudly sits on Boards dedicated to helping people: the Swanson Center, Michigan City Chamber Music, and Special Olympics of LaPorte County.
