The evening
will include a planting ceremony, an evening walk to see previous Arbor Day
plantings, and free tree giveaways. A representative from NIPSCO will also be
on site to offer tips on where to safely plant trees.
“We have carefully selected native tree species to give away including River
Birch, Bur Oak, and Eastern Wahoo, which is an alternative to the invasive
Burning Bush,” said Stephanie Blackstock, the executive director of the
arboretum. “Each tree will be in a 5-gallon bucket and come with instructions
on how to care for it.”
The Arbor Day
Celebration is free but arboretum admission fees apply for non-members. Trees
are available to those who pre-register at pnw.edu/arbor-day.
