Diversity & Inclusion Series

Topic: Diversity & Inclusion: Undoing Unconscious Bias by Inclusive Design

Speaker: Dr. Alexis Washington

    • Most informed leaders have learned about unconscious bias and heard that everyone has it. So what does the inclusive leader do to overcome unconscious biases? Wake up! In this session, we will examine unconscious biases, uncover the underpinnings of inclusive leadership and explore methods that inclusive leaders can use to overcome the attitudes, blind spots and roadblocks that undermine inclusive cultures.

Prep: Participants can prepare by completing an Implicit Association Test and/or acquiring some of the additional resources provided(see below).
      • Learning Goal: To identify your current level of implicit (unconscious) bias.
      • Instructions: Complete the Implicit Association Test: Instructions below
      • Go to the Implicit Association Test website: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html
      • Select “take a test” (from options along the top of the screen) and agree to continue by selecting “I wish to proceed”.
      • Take as many of you like, but include at least 2 of the following 7 options: race, gender-career, age, sexuality, weight, religion, or disability. Each takes approximately 10-minutes to complete.
      • Your results are private and will not be shared. We will discuss the assessment itself (not your personal results) in session.
