About Chancellor Jeff L. Pittman, Ph.D.

Jeff Pittman, Ph.D., began his role as chancellor of St. Louis Community College in July 2015. He is responsible for guiding a multi-campus college system with four locations that offer college transfer options and more than 80 career-focused programs. STLCC is the largest higher educational institution in the region, serving more than 50,000 students annually.

Under his leadership, the college has developed a comprehensive strategic plan, increased employee participation in the budgeting process with new emphasis on fiscal responsibility, increased opportunities for workforce development initiatives and programming, developed dual enrollment and dual credit programs for high school students, and has focused on maintaining affordable, accessible, quality educational opportunities. In 2018, STLCC earned reaffirmation of accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission. Next fall, the college will open the Center for Nursing and Health Sciences building at the Forest Park campus to help train students for careers in health care.

Pittman has 30 years of experience in higher education. In addition to his role as chancellor, Pittman serves as a board member for Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Greater St. Louis, Higher Education Consortium of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri Community College Association and RC-2020.

Topic: State of the Workforce Presented by St. Louis Community College

Ten years ago, our economy faced 6.6 unemployed workers for every job opening. Today, the economic outlook is much different as there are now more job openings than unemployed persons.

During this presentation, Chancellor Jeff L. Pittman, Ph.D., will discuss key findings from St. Louis Community College's 10^th annual State of the St. Louis Workforce Report. Special emphasis will be placed on the sectors critical to the region's past and future economic resurgence, including healthcare, information technology and financial services.

Guest Speaker - Chief Mike Krause of Metro West Fire Protection District

Topic: Connecting our Community with PulsePoint

A network of volunteers that could mean the difference between life and death to anyone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest is now being launched in St. Louis County and at our Chamber's luncheon.

PulsePoint is a fast-growing system nationwide and one being implemented by all fire protection and emergency medical service districts and departments dispatched by the Central County Emergency 911 operation [CCE] in Ellisville.

With the program, everyday citizens who know CPR can register to be included in the network and can install the necessary app on their smartphone to be alerted if someone nearby has suffered an SCA. The alert system is tailored for both iOS [Apple] and Android devices.

Registering to receive notification of nearby emergencies where you as a person with CPR training can help is a simple process. The apps can be downloaded from the PulsePoint website [pulsepoint.org] and the process walks you through the registration process.

“Minutes – even seconds – count in cardiac arrest situations,” said Mike Krause, chief of the Metro West Fire Protection District. “EMS crews have everything needed to take care of a patient, but those skills and equipment can’t replace the quick application of CPR by someone nearby who can reach that person even faster.”

Krause and Chris McCarthy, Fenton FPD’s deputy chief and medical officer, have spearheaded the effort to implement PulsePoint in the area CCE serves. That includes 33 fire protection districts and departments covering almost all of St. Louis County and portions of adjoining counties.

Topic: Better Business Bureau: Advancing marketplace trust by creating a community of trustworthy businesses and denouncing substandard or fraudulent practices

Since 1997, Michelle L. Corey has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Better Business Bureau serving Eastern Missouri & Southern Illinois. She began her work at the BBB in customer service and later held the positions of director of advertising review, trade practices investigator, director of operations and executive vice president.

• How BBB Serves You: what business leaders should know connecting to consumers on bbb.org, finding trustworthy vendors, responding to customer complaints, asking for customer reviews, tracking scams, challenging competitor's advertisements, and more.
• Identifying and Preventing Scams Targeting Businesses: a review of the top small business scams; fake invoices, fake checks, phishing attacks, CEO email fraud, etc., and what business leaders can do to protect their company.
