projectART Wimberley Opens, projectMENTOR Exhibition, at ART

projectART Wimberley today announced the May 10, 2024 opening of its projectMENTOR exhibition, at ARTSPACE (111 River Road, Suite 100, Wimberley, TX 78666). The opening reception will be held from 6-8pm; the show will be on display through May 26, 2024. Displaying the projectMENTOR exhibition in projectART’s newly opened mixed-use arts education and gallery space, ARTSPACE, is a major milestone for projectART on its mission to support art education and provide creative opportunities for area students.

“projectMENTOR, perhaps our most visible program, matches area students with professional artists for an entire semester of one-on-one instruction, the culmination of which is this exhibition,” says Bregan Ford, Director of Operations at projectART Wimberley. “Over the course of these spring semester sessions, the young artists become the sole focus of their mentors, working together to explore new mediums, inspire new works, and create lifelong friendships. This program is 100% free to students and is made possible by the unbelievable support of their families, volunteer artists, and donors. The proceeds of this exhibition help fund the successive season and other projectART programming.”

ARTSPACE is proud to present its 4th annual projectMENTOR exhibition, displaying the works of 14 area students alongside their professional artist mentors.

This news comes in the wake of many recent initiatives and accomplishments of the organization, including:

  • The grand opening of ARTSPACE, a mixed-use arts education and gallery space, in the heart of downtown Wimberley

  • The roll out of low to no cost K-12 weekly art classes, summer camps

  • A partnership with Wimberley ISD’s for-credit Practicum program

  • A donation of $5,075.08 in art supplies made to Wimberley schools

“I’ve had the pleasure of being a MENTOR twice now and at the end of each spring semester I am asking myself who might have learned more, my student or me. THAT to me is the point of mentoring; as an artist it is a privilege to share what we’ve learned with the next generation of creatives and help them to shape their stories, and at the same time it’s an honor to experience the students’ unbridled imaginations, it undoubtedly sparks new ideas. Sharing what we know and providing opportunity and space to inspire each other to create is why we started projectMENTOR.” Heather Carter, founding member at projectART Wimberley.
