The Education Department at the Troy Phenix City campus host Summer Spectacular every year. This program is a summer camp for children of Troy students and rising fourth and fifth grade students from the Phenix City Housing Project. Mrs. Annette Walters (Summer Spectacular coordinator), Dr. Carolyn Russell Poole, and Dr. Carol Moore will be assisting with and guiding Troy students with the design and implementation of Summer Spectacular activities.
The Troy students enrolled in Education courses will plan the lessons based on a specific theme, “Out of this World” that will incorporate STEAM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). Of course, reading and writing activities will be included in daily lessons. Three instructional sessions per day will be taught by the Troy teacher candidates and the camp will be scheduled for eight days, Monday – Thursday for two weeks, during the first two weeks in 2018 June (June 4 – 7, and June 11 – 14). The children are divided into two groups based on age, with two or more teachers and volunteers per group. Each instructional session is scheduled for approximately 45 minutes. The last day of camp is a celebration day, consisting of sharing of lessons learned, topics explored, and standards met.
Please contact Mrs. Annette Walters via e-mail, firstname.lastname@example.org, if you have questions or if additional information is needed. ... See MoreSee Less
