The Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery is proud to announce the opening of three new art exhibitions beginning Friday

Lawton, OK
02/21/2020 12:09 PM
Sapana by Samridh Mukhiya is a collection of drawings and paintings that explore the human condition conceptually. Mukhiya draws from within when creating art, striving to incorporate metaphorical elements to convey ideas and experiences. He spends much of his time conceptualizing the work before the physical process of creation even begins. “Through my art, I want to start a dialogue with my audience, presenting ideas that invoke curiosity and seed a perception which grow into questions.” Mukhiya immigrated to the USA from Nepal in 2011. He currently resides in Flower Mound, Texas, where he works as a ride-share driver in order to have enough time to create art on a daily basis.

Phantome by Gwendolyn Price attempts to capture the ghosts that haunt us as individuals. Through the use of rich oil paint, Price pulls these specters out of the canvas and captures them with her expressive technique. While in front of her easel, she asks, “What haunts the room in which memories stain the walls forever? How do they define us, and how do they continue to haunt us?” Having moved from army post to army post most of her life, she settled down in Lawton in 2010. Price is currently a student at Cameron University where she continues to evolve her work.

Oklahoma Through My Lens  by Randy Jones showcases the nature and beauty of our state as the photographer sees it. “There is an aspect of wildlife and nature photography where you put yourself in position to capture a moment in time that is very stimulating and satisfying. It’s a great adventure to be learning something new all the time.” Jones is a born-and-raised Oklahoman, being born in Norman and living in Oklahoma his entire life. He cites his Oklahoma heritage as the inspiration for his love of nature and wildlife.

These three exhibitions will kick off with an opening reception on Friday, 6 March from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served. As with all of our events, this show is free to attend and open to the public. After the reception, the exhibitions will then run through Friday, 27 March 2020 and can be viewed during our new business hours of 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery is a non-profit organization whose mission is to celebrate and promote the arts in the Lawton community as well as Southwestern Oklahoma.
