GuernseyTingle was honored by the Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate at the 21st Annual Excellence in Development Design Awards Program and Hampton Roads Design Build Institute of America for the design of the St. Bede Catholic Church Expansion in James City County, Virginia.

GuernseyTingle, Henderson, Inc. and Kerns Group Architects partnered with St. Bede Catholic Church to design and build an Education Wing, Parish Hall and Church Offices that met the needs of the parishioners, minimized the visual impact of new building to the existing worship space, and allows the church to look toward future growth opportunities on their existing site.

The HRACE award was an Award of Excellence, and the DBIA award was for Project of the Year.

Located in the woods far from the main road, access to the church reflects the parish’s spiritual journey. The low massing of two new one-story wings defer to the worship volume as the most important space in the composition and creates a sacred outdoor room which opens to the community.

GuernseyTingle continues to work with St. Bede Catholic Church to update and expand the original masterplan.

GuernseyTingle is entering its 35th year as a Williamsburg-based Architectural, Interior Design and Planning firm.
