American Red Cross Virtual Volunteer Recruitment Fair
Odessa, TX
02/19/2021 02:57 PM

The American Red Cross Serving the Permian Basin has an urgent need for volunteers. Red Cross volunteers are mobilized across the state helping Texans in need, including right here in the Permian Basin.

The Red Cross and community organizations have 160 shelters and warming centers open across 5 states (Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia). Thursday night, more than 2,000 people stayed in emergency shelters — with the majority being in Texas

The Red Cross is supporting many of these shelters and warming centers with cots, blankets, volunteers, water and ready-to-eat meals when requested. Warming centers offer a place for people to get out of the cold and to warm up during the day, while continuing to sleep at home.

All Red Cross-supported shelters have COVID-19 safety protocols in place. This includes conducting a health screening process for everyone coming into the shelter, providing masks, ensuring additional space between cots, and using enhanced cleaning and disinfecting practices.

Hundreds of Red Cross disaster workers are providing shelter, have served nearly 5,000 meals and snacks and distributed more than 3,700 emergency supplies, including clean-up kits to help people clean up after pipes burst in their homes.

The Red Cross is providing water for people at the emergency shelters and warming centers we are managing and supporting. Many organizations who specialize in distributing water are at work in the affected communities. When possible, we are helping to connect partners who want to make water donations with communities in need of those resources.

Join us and help support your local community.

Find the volunteer opportunity that is right for you, and be ready to help your community through the next disaster by joining our Virtual Volunteer Recruitment Fair on Wednesday, February 24th at 5:30 p.m. CST.
