Service takes on a whole new meaning when you have 185 youth and 60 adult leaders take on 18 different projects at a local nonprofit organization.  This is exactly what happened on Saturday, February 25 from 9am to 1pm at the Burke Center for Youth, Pathfinder’s Ranch, in Driftwood, Texas.  Pathfinder’s Ranch provides therapeutic experiences and treatment services to young men and boys from all parts of Texas who are unable to live in a family setting due to traumatic events in their lives.  The Burke Center for Youth has many ongoing projects and needs and always welcomes solo or group volunteer efforts, which made it a perfect candidate for the youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Oak Hills Texas Stake.  Some of the work ranged from cleaning up flowerbeds and garden beds, leveling a field to create a suitable baseball field, repairing a shed roof, fixing toilets, creating new doorframes, building bunkbeds, hauling out brush and trees, and giving buildings a much-needed fresh coat of paint.  These tasks would seem daunting to anyone, but if you were to ask the youth and leaders how they felt while doing these activities, the common response was always happy and upbeat.   They know that, “When you are in the service of your fellow-being, you are only in the service of your God.”
