Giant Food Stores LLC announced that all seafood sold at their in-store service counters is now 100 percent “sustainable and responsibly sourced.” All of their Nature’s Promise and Own Brand seafood items are also sustainably sourced. Edward Jones ranked No. 10 on the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list created by FORTUNE and Great Place to Work. This is Edward Jones’ 17th time making the list.

 

First National Bank closed two of their locations in Harrisburg: one at 4231 Trindle Road, and 4045 Linglestown Road. The locations were closed after a standard review, and in part because they are located within a mile of local Metro Bank branches, which FNB acquired. Harrisburg International Airport announced that it will offer new flights to Myrtle Beach with Allegiant Air. These flights will run twice weekly, May 19 - September 18. This is Allegiant’s fourth nonstop destination from HIA. (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

Officials from Harrisburg International Airport announced that Winter Storm Jonas dumped a total of 30.2 inches of snow at the airport, leading to a decrease in passenger numbers. Jonas cost HIA approximately $250,000. (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

Highmark’s recent decision to reimburse providers 4.5 percent less for patients under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has prompted both the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians to send letters to the state’s insurance department. However, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department does not have any control over this decision, and physicians will have to accept. Highmark made the decision to reduce its reimbursement rate to make up for losses resulting from the ACA. Discussions between Highmark and Medical Society organizations and affiliated physician groups began the first week of March. (Source: CPBJ.com)

  

PinnacleHealth System purchased a property located at 1000 Paxton St. in Harrisburg for $3.6 million. The property measured 7.6 acres and was formerly owned by Sutliff Enterprises. The new location will be utilized within the next three to six months, and will be used for “fleet maintenance and the relocation of Community Life Team.” (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

On Saturday, April 23, the United Way of Lebanon County will hold their 20th annual “Day of Caring” event, which is the largest volunteer event in the county. There are 130 volunteer project requests from more than 90 non-profits, recreational facilities, and county, city and borough facilities around Lebanon County. Premier sponsors Bluescope Buildings North America and Butler Manufacturing in addition to Philhaven, Zinn Insurance and the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce have joined efforts to sponsor the printing of over 1,300 “LIVE UNITED” T-shirts to be given to each volunteer in thanks for participating.  

 

AMC Delancey Group Inc.and Heritage Senior Living, the previous owners of Traditions of Hershey, recently sold the senior care facility to Griffin-American Healthcare REIT III Inc. from California for $27.5 million. JBT Financial Services, the investment and trust services division of Jonestown Bank & Trust Co., has announced the recent hiring of Derrik Brown as investment and trust officer. Brown joins Vice President & Senior Trust Officer Terry Resanovich and will assist in management of trust investments and account administration for clients of JBT Financial Services.

 

Suits to Careers Inc., the umbrella company for the Dress for Success South Central PA and Tied to Success programs, is closing its Lebanon branch office in June. The branch is closing due to a decrease in client visits in the Lebanon office. The company is expanding its mobile services to cater to those in the Lebanon and Lancaster areas. HACC Central Pennsylvania’s Community College will test a new tool, called WorkKeys, on Lebanon County. WorkKeys is an assessment test designed to help improve the workforce by assessing skill levels of current or prospective employees. HACC will be meeting local schools and companies throughout Lebanon County to promote the WorkKeys test. Organizations that partner with HACC will be able to administer the test to their employees for free with HACC footing the cost. (Source: CPBJ.com)

At a press conference held on Tuesday, March 22, Visit Lebanon Valley President Laura Putt, Lebanon City Mayor Sherry Capello and FIREBALL RUN Crew announced that Lebanon County will be an official destination for the 10th season of FIREBALL RUN Adventurally. FIREBALL RUN is a life-­sized, action-packed, eight-­day, 2,000-mile trivia game with the purpose of aiding in a massive effort to recover America’s missing children. The Lebanon FIREBALL RUN episode is made possible thanks to the following presenting sponsors: Klick-Lewis, The Foundry Craft Grillery, Brenda Miller of Re/Max Cornerstone, Fulton Bank, and the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center.  

 

Habitat for Humanity of Lebanon County and Habitat for Humanity of Lancaster County recently announced their consolidation into Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity. This consolidation will expand Habitat’s building and repair programs and help more families in need of affordable, safe housing. Quandel Construction Group was hired by Bloomsburg University as the general contractor for their new, 162,000-square-foot residence hall and bookstore. The $60 million project will include housing for approximately 400 students, an external gathering space with fire pit, second-story outdoor plaza, two lounges on every floor, and a “green” roof. Providing services for the entire campus community, the ground floor of the seven-story building will consist of the University Store, two new dining venues and district cooling plant, while the first floor will house campus mail services and an integrative learning area. The remaining six floors will consist of suite-style student residences for up to four students. Associated utility infrastructure, site development, and landscaping are also part of the project. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2016 with the building ready for occupancy in August 2017. 


Statistics released from the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics showed that Harrisburg International Airport had some of America’s highest average ticket prices in 2015. HIA’s average third-quarter domestic fare was $480.32. However, Scott Miller, spokesman for HIA, explained that ticket price is only one factor to consider when examining an airport’s performance. (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

Myerstown Borough will purchase a former elementary school building for $600,000 to use for offices, a community center, and a small business development center. An estimated $600,000 will also be spent for renovations. If all goes as planned, the borough plans on moving its offices to the new location by the end of the year. (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

On March 19, Lebanon Valley College hosted its 2016 Special Olympics Swim Meet. Over 100 Special Olympics athletes took part in the 10th anniversary of the event, participating in swimming races at LVC's collegiate pool.

 

On Wednesday, March 16, Mayor Sherry Capello gave her State of the City address at Hebron Social Hall in Lebanon. The luncheon was sponsored by the Community of Lebanon Association. Thomas R. Harlow, a health care executive with three decades of leadership experience, will join WellSpan Health as senior vice president for the health system and president of WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, effective June 6, 2016. Harlow comes to WellSpan from the Geisinger Health System, where he has served as the chief executive of Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Harlow succeeds Robert J. Longo, who retired in December after 32 years with Good Samaritan.

 

Harrisburg International Airport officials are expecting record-breaking traffic through Allegiant Air this year. February 2016 was Allegiant’s second busiest month since coming to HIA in 2012. Last month, nearly 9,800 passengers traveled between HIA and its Florida stops. Overall, HIA served 80,717 passengers in February. During the week of March 18, HIA’s board, the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority, approved $404,915 worth of contracts. Lebanon Valley College was chosen as one of the schools to debut Comcast Corp.’s new Comcast on Campus service. This service is included in the room and board cost for students, and includes access to 150 live cable channels as well as OnDemand on devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones. (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

Capital BlueCross has continued to put laboratory services at its Hampden Township store location on hold. Laboratory services were previously being offered by Theranos, a company based in California. However, in January, clinical deficiencies were found in one of Theranos’ labs, and a recent study was released showing that Theranos’ cholesterol tests provided results different than other labs. Lebanon-based DRT Transportation was part of an 18-company U.S. logistics delegation that met with Cuban officials in late March to learn more about the nation’s transportation infrastructure and the challenges in facilitating the flow of goods and services in and out of the country. DRT President Rob Kemp was among logistics executives invited to join the delegation, which was organized by the Transportation Intermediaries Association.

According to Highmark’s 2015 financial report released on Friday, April 1, the company ended 2015 with revenue up five percent from 2014. Their overall operating revenue was $17.7 billion, and their operating loss was $565 million.
