Ridgeland, Miss. - Runners, riders and rockers from all over Mississippi will gather May 19 at Old Trace Park at Barnett Reservoir in Ridgeland for Back the Blue Fest, an all-day event dedicated to Mississippi’s fallen law enforcement officers and to honor those who continue to make our communities safe.
All funds raised for with this event will be donated to the Wives of Warriors of Mississippi through Create Foundation Inc., an organization that takes care of the families of Mississippi Law Enforcement officers, said chief organizer Bryan Wheeler of The Southern Connection Police Supply. Wheeler had the original idea for the event and has been the spearhead of the organizing committee.
“I just called a couple of people that I knew in the business and the event just grew,” Wheeler said. “From there, it started coming into fruition.”
From an event that started out to be just a concert to celebrate Law Enforcement officers and remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, Back the Blue Fest has become a day-long event starting with a 5k run/walk in the morning, a motorcycle show and ride mid-afternoon, a memorial service, and the evening concert featuring the Jason Miller Band, Burnham Road, and Nashville recording newcomer Jacob Bryant.
“We’ve worked with the City of Ridgeland, the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, the Barnett Reservior Foundation and local law enforcement agencies to make sure this event is safe, and the route we have chosen for our runners and riders is safe,” said organizer Kristy Daniels of Priority One Bank. “We have invited many local food trucks and children’s entertainment to make this a fun-filled family event.”
The 5K pre-race bag pick up will be at The Southern Connection Police Supply (274 Commerce Park Drive, Suite M, Ridgeland MS 39157, 601-853-3106) beginning at 4 pm on Friday, May 18.
