Forty-three career professionals recently went “back to school” to inspire students at Summit Christian Academy (SCA) at the school’s second annual career fair held for students in 8th and 10th grade.

The room and booths were color-coded to match careers with the Holland Code, a code developed by the military to examine personalities for the purpose of matching personality with careers.  The students took the Holland Code test in January to determine what careers would be a good fit for their personality trait.

Students initially met with an assigned group and supervisor, then attended a minimum of six interviews and filled out a debriefing sheet.

The career volunteers were comprised of SCA alumni, parents, and community volunteers.  Students had the opportunity to learn about a large breadth of careers including professions including a Lt. for the Highway Patrol, a tennis professional, a chemical engineer, an emergency room physician, a graphic designer, an air control officer, a marketing director, an attorney, and the director of a non-profit, and many more.

“An important part of finding God’s call on your life is taking time to seek for it,” shared SCA academic dean Kimberlee Gill. “Pausing the day-to-day school routine to speak with people in careers that match a student’s gifts and talents is a valuable tool for them in their own self-discovery. It was a joy to watch our amazing volunteers light up as they talked about their passions with students who were excited to learn about them!”
