Troy, Michigan… If you are grieving the loss of a loved one or work with those experiencing the depression of grief, you will have the opportunity to hear Dr. Alan Wolfelt, a national grief expert and author, speak in Troy, Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Alan Wolfelt, Ph.D., is director of the Center for Loss & Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado. Attendees will find him to be an excellent and entertaining speaker on the very serious subject of grief according to organizers.

Sponsored by A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors, Dr. Wolfelt will present a free community seminar entitled: “Exploring the Need to Grieve and Mourn” on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Michigan State University (MSU) Management Education Center located at 811 W. Square Lake Rd. in Troy.

Dr. Wolfelt will also conduct a second half-day seminar for professionals and the public entitled: “Exploring the Paradoxes of Mourning” on Wednesday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, at the MSU Management Education Center. For interested professionals, SW CE hours are available.

 

“Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one as well as anyone that counsels those who are grieving should come to hear Dr. Wolfelt.     At “Exploring the Paradoxes of Grief”, a seminar for professionals as well as the public, on Oct. 26, Dr. Wolfelt will discuss the following topics:

  • Defining  the Three Truths of Mourning

  • Understanding the distinction between knowledge and wisdom

  • Exploring the trend of confusing efficiency and effectiveness

  • Understanding the concept of the “Slow Grief Movement”
