Winters Mill High School will be featured on NBC’s TODAY on Friday, September 25, 2020, at approximately 8:35 a.m. on WBAL-TV Channel 11.

Winters Mill was selected for the show based on the priority it places on students’ mental health, particularly during this difficult time.  The program will focus on the school’s Sources of Strength program and senior Diana Flores, who was selected as the 2020 Student Champion of the Year by the Children’s Mental Health Matters! Campaign for her commitment to help raise awareness and reduce the stigma of children’s mental health.

Sources of Strength is a peer-led mental wellness program that utilizes the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture to ultimately prevent suicide, bullying, violence, and substance abuse. Winters Mill was one of the first schools in Carroll County to adopt this program.

Diana Flores is a member of the Executive Board for Falcons of Strength, the Sources of Strength program at Winters Mill. She manages the Falcons of Strength social media sites and continuously updates them with challenges, resources, and important information. She attends all of the weekly virtual meetings and has reached out to local agencies to set up virtual meetings for students.
