The Blue Valley Recreation Commission’s (BVRC) newest addition located at 143rd Street and 69
Highway has a name. Construction began last year on the north side of the Blue
Valley School District’s Hilltop Campus. The indoor facility for fitness,
dance, basketball, volleyball, and pickleball will be known as the Blue Valley
Recreation Center at Hilltop. Because of the new facility’s name, the
Commission will rename the existing Recreation Complex located on 137th
Street to the Sports Complex.
“The new facility is based on community needs and allows BVRC
the opportunity to better meet those needs,” said executive director Steve
Baysinger. “It also provided the opportunity to align our facility names with
the major functions of the facilities.”
The facility name speaks to the active nature of the building
that will provide more drop-in recreation activities than any of the
Commission’s current facilities. In addition to eight sports courts, the Rec
Center will house a 9,700-square foot strength and cardio area with Life
Fitness machines, Fitness on Demand, and various strength and cardio classes.
The 1/7 of a mile indoor walking track is elevated around much of the court
space for an uninterrupted lap. Blue Valley Rec’s popular dance program will also
move to the new building starting with January classes.
Membership fees are
being finalized and will be available for purchase mid-October with the
building scheduled to open later this year. Please check www.bluevalleyrec.org for the latest
