Shawnee Mission School District Hosts Dedication Ceremony for SMSD Aquatic Center

The Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD), in partnership with Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) and the City of Lenexa, will host a Dedication Ceremony for the SMSD Aquatic Center. The event begins with a reception at 4 p.m. and the ceremony at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 17251 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, Kansas.
The Shawnee Mission School District owns the Aquatic Center, which was built on land donated to the district by the City of Lenexa. The district shared the cost to build the garage with the City of Lenexa, and JRPRD will operate the Center and provide programming.
The 50-meter pool in the SMSD Aquatic Center is the largest pool in Johnson County. Seating in the bleachers can accommodate 1,000 spectators.
The SMSD Aquatic Center location provides convenient interstate access from anywhere in the metro area. The 30-minute drive from the airport makes the facility a suitable destination for large regional and national meets.
The SMSD Aquatic Center will host its first swim meet, a Shawnee Mission inter-district meet, on Saturday, December 7, 2019.
