HAVEN KICKS OFF 40th YEAR OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

“I’m honored to continue to lead this organization into its next phase alongside new Board Members that share a similar commitment to help women live without fear,” said Carole Winnard Brumm, chairperson, HAVEN. “For 40 years, HAVEN has been a vital resource in the community, helping restore the lives of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. We will continue to be a lifeline until violence against women stops.”

The new Board members, who bring a wide-range of experiences and skills to HAVEN, are:

Rebecca Erfurt, Director II, Office of the President – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan

Donna M. Krall, Executive Vice President – Flagstar Bank

Harriet-Marcia Shakir, Worldwide Program Manager-Security Systems Channel Sales – IBM Corporation

Debra Thorpe, Senior Vice President, OCG Global Operations – Kelly Services, Inc.

Janet M. Vermeulin, Senior Consultant – Towers Watson

“Although HAVEN staff has worked relentlessly for 40 years to bring an end to domestic and sexual violence, it remains a reality for many,” said Beth Morrison, President and CEO, HAVEN. “We will continue to support victims and provide community education and awareness until we can say that zero people are affected.”  

Morrison continued, “We are pleased to have exceptional leadership in our Executive Committee as we continue to raise funds for and prepare to open the doors of our new facility. We also look forward to extraordinary guidance and leadership from our newest directors.”

The 40th anniversary was recognized and the new Board of Directors members were appointed at HAVEN’s annual meeting held January 8 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.  

HAVEN leadership also recognized and expressed its gratitude for the valuable contributions of departing Board members: Beth Lieberman, Consulting Actuary, Towers Watson; Terry Merritt, Group Vice President, Walbridge Aldinger; Marja Norris, Senior Vice President, Investments, UBS Financial Services, Inc.; Nina Ramsey, Sr. Vice President, Human Resources, Kelly Services; Carole Lieberman Rich, Director Business Development & Water Management Strategist, Parjana Distribution, LLC; and Susan Telang, CPA, Chief Financial Officer, Carhartt.
