CLASS TITLE:
Fitness Attendant (Part-Time)
PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION:
Assists members and guests of the
Muskogee Swim and Fitness Center with proper use of equipment and other related
duties that may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Assists recreation personnel in the scheduling,
supervision and upkeep of recreation facilities and equipment.

Monitors fitness room to ensure smooth flow of
patrons through exercise circuits.

Assembles and disassembles recreational
equipment.
=
Provides instruction to patrons in the proper use of the facility equipment to include cardiovascular equipment.
=
Helps maintain discipline, order and safety of
citizens involved in a variety of recreation activities.
=
Cleans fitness and weight room equipment.
=
Interprets recreation programs and department
procedures to groups and individuals.
=
Sweeps, mops carpet and rubber floors.
=Launders cleaning towels used to wipe down
equipment.
=
Reports equipment maintenance needs.
=
Occasionally gives facility tours.
=
Performs other work as necessary and or as
assigned.
=
Must report to
work on a regular and timely basis.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Fitness Attendant reports
directly to the Fitness Coordinator.
The Fitness Attendant does not
have any direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and six (6)
months of related experience. Preference
will be given to those with college level training in recreation, health promotion,
sports management or other fitness related areas.
Knowledge,
Abilities and Skills: Working knowledge of all fitness systems and
proper techniques used in a recreation and fitness facility. Ability to effectively deal with customers
and the public; ability to enforce operating
policies and procedures in an effective and courteous manner; ability to
establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with
coworkers and center patrons; ability to repair non-working fitness equipment;
ability to keep simple records.
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are

frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger, handle or feel;
reach with arms and hands. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop,
kneel, crouch. Occasional lifting up to
fifty (50) pounds. Vision, speech and hearing
sufficient to perform essential tasks. Punctuality and reasonable attendance is
essential. Must submit to drug
screening and fitness to work physical exam.
Licenses and
Certificates: Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class D
driver’s license is required. Requires CPR,
AED and First Aid Certification.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The employee is exposed to hot,
wet and humid conditions. The noise
level in the work environment is usually loud.
Requires ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Notice: This classification is a “safety sensitive”
position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and
alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and
Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety sensitive” classification, you
will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included
in the drug panel screening. Possession
of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or
the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
STARTING PAY: $10.59/hr.
WORK HOURS: Work schedule
varies according to need, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
WORK LOCATION: City of
Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department, Recreation Division, Swim and Fitness
Center, 566 North 6th Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
