Java Jam

HIM AND HER, JAVA JAM, FRIDAY, April 28th ,6-9PM

Him & Her is a bluesy, jazzy, folksy band playing original music, featuring singer songwriter Brenda Freed on vocals, and guitar or piano, Michael D’Eath (DEE-uth) on diatonic and chromatic harmonica, and Duke Davis on upright bass.

In 2005, Michael & Brenda’s band Texas Hot Flash won an Austin Music Award, self-released 3 CDs, performed throughout Central Texas and Southern California, and opened for the Charlie Daniels Band. Formed from those successful roots, Him & Her has since created a special musical chemistry and performed throughout the Texas Hill Country, the Midwest and in England. Duke Davis is an award winning singer songwriter, musician, producer, poet, free-lance writer, historian and cowboy. He’s had his own Western Swing Band, “Buckshot,” since 1979 and has produced over 230 recordings for dozens of artists. He is in high demand as a bassist having played with Mike Blakely the last six years, as well as with Him & Her. Couple Michael’s tasty harmonica playing with Brenda’s soulful voice and Duke’s upright bass and you get a powerful trio sound that delights listening audiences. Him & Her has released two albums, most recently, Him & Her In the Groove (2016), and the Trio is working on a new album for release in 2017.

In addition to their lives as performing musicians, Michael & Brenda have spent their time together supporting music for youth and through serving with local and national non-profits. Brenda has an MA in Music Education & Music Therapy, and pioneered the Music Therapy program at the University of Iowa Hospitals. She also teaches voice workshops at national conferences and festivals, at Fredericksburg ISD continuing education, as well as privately via Skype and in her studio in Blanco, TX. Brenda also produces a successful line of Effortless Music Instruction products.

Him & Her cover multiple genres with style, tight melodies, clever lyrics and great harp playing. From Traditional folk, to blues and good ole’ Texas Swing.

So come on out and join in the fun. Bring a covered dish with a little extra to share and $15 per person cover charge and enjoy Wharton’s most unique dining/live music venue. For other details and directions see www.milamstcoffee.com
