Little Red and The Hoods

Little Red and The Hoods

Weatherford College presents "Little Red and The Hoods" Sept. 28-29 in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.

This children’s production is part of the college’s annual children’s touring theatre troupe arranged by Joe Nicikowski who also directs the show.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. Saturday matinees. Doors open a half hour prior to show time, and admission is free.

“Little Red and The Hoods” by Karen Boettcher-Tate is a new take on the old classic with heavy audience participation during the show and a dose of modern lessons for today’s children.

As the story goes, of course, Little Red is taking cookies to her grandmother when she encounters Harry Wolf. Harry works for the notorious gang leader, Ma Sugar Lump, and wants to steal the recipe to the cookies. The pack of meanies can then bake more cookies, sell them to others and become rich. Fortunately, their plot fails.

This play teaches its young audiences about not judging people by their looks, how to protect themselves from strangers and the importance of reading. With plenty of participation, this show is both fun and educational at the same time.

Weatherford Christian School Faith Promise Dinner

Weatherford Christian School Faith Promise Dinner

Weatherford Christian School is quickly approaching the 15th annual Faith Promise Dinner, a fundraising event that will take place on Saturday, September 29th at the Canyon West Club House beginning at 6:30 pm. This dinner is an opportunity for all WCS parents, grandparents, local business owners, and supporters to see the many advancements taking place at this dually accredited, non-denominational Christian School.

Guests will enjoy a sit-down dinner catered by City Kitchen and hear a motivating message from Retired United State Army Officer, Senator Brian Birdwell. This event will be centered around the theme “Refined By Fire” emphasizing the importance of providing a Christ-centered educational environment where children are equipped for lives of Christian leadership and service.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell is a native Texan, decorated military veteran and lifelong conservative Republican proudly representing Texas Senate District 22. Born in Fort Worth, Brian is a graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he earned a Master of Public Administration degree.

On September 11, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed just yards away from his second floor Pentagon office, Brian was critically wounded and severely burned. Of the burns that covered more than 60 percent of his body, nearly half were third degree in severity. Today, following 39 operations, months of hospitalization and numerous skin grafts, Brian has made a miraculous recovery. Despite physical limitations, he testifies not only to his physical healing, but the ultimate miracle of grace through Christ.

This year’s event is made possible because of the continued support of incredible sponsors. Seating is limited for this event. To inquire about seats or sponsorships, please visit wcslions.org/faith-promise, call 817-596-7807 ext. 327, or e-mail marketing@wcslions.org.

Willie, Johnny & Waylon Are The Highwaymen LIVE!

Willie, Johnny & Waylon Are The Highwaymen LIVE!

THE HIGHWAYMEN LIVE

It’s the 85th Birthday Celebration Year for Willie Nelson. Forty years since Stardust hit the charts, and the popularity for this American music icon continues to grow. Celebrated in

every corridor of music across this country, no artist is more recognized in the United State than Willie Nelson. The acclaimed unofficial ambassador to the world of country music,

Willie is accepted by all folks in all walks of life and loved by millions worldwide.

No other single individual has been as closely identified with Willie Nelson as Waylon Jennings. Their emergence as the ‘The Outlaws’ of country music identified the progressive

renegade country movement and it’s break from the traditional Nashville music stereotype that opened the door for decades of adventures beyond the mainstream of country music.

With a home base in Austin, Willie and Waylon (and the Boys) captured the imagination of the nation and set the course for today’s expanding country music scene.

The best tribute show in North America to these two country immortals in haunting resemblance for both sight and sound is Michael Moore, a Texas musician and vocalist who has

been often mistaken for Willie Nelson, August Manley, a musician and vocalist who is a dead ringer for the late Waylon Jennings in both appearance and vocal ability plus add to the

mix country’s legendary ‘Man in Black’, Johnny Cash performed by tribute artist, Bennie Wheels. The Highwaymen Live creates a tribute show to Willie, Waylon and Cash that

transports the audience to a time when the “Outlaws of Country Music” took the stage and captured the attention and affection of all who were lucky enough to catch their act.

Rockwall native Brandon Bamburg, who is making a name for himself in the North Texas area, is opening The Highwaymen Live show. Brandon, (singer, writer and Navy Veteran)

is a country music traditionist whose goal is to keep traditional music in the mainstream with songs like his original “I Ain’t Never Gonna Change”.
