Walk Across Texas

Walk Across Texas

Walk Across Texas begins March 4

Through a modest increase in daily activity, most Americans can improve their health. WALK ACROSS TEXAS is a program that persuades and motivates people of all ages to make the most important change…to get started.  It is a fun and flexible way to exercise.  The program is simple, free and safe.  All you need is a team of eight people to get moving, with one person being designated as the “team captain.”  The team who walks farthest “across Texas” will win, but everyone who participates will take home a healthy habit – walking for fitness.

Team members report their daily mileage to the team captain, and the team captain reports the individual and team total miles on the following web address: http://walkacrosstexas.tamu.edu  or  to the Extension office at the end of each week by: telephone (817.598.6168), fax (817.598.6159) or e-mail kl-smith@tamu.edu.

Teams are not required to walk or ride together, although they may if they desire.  Teams simply pool their mileage each week to work toward “walking across Texas”.   Members may walk, jog, ride a bike, skateboard, roller blade, tread mill, swim, spin and/or run.  A large Texas map showing the progress of teams will be in Texas AgriLife Extension, Parker County office, and at other various locations.

So dust off your walking shoes and prepare to join us in this 8 week journey beginning on March 4, and continuing through April 29

Walk across Texas is sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. We are looking for captains and team members.  Please encourage organizations in which you are involved to participate in this endeavor.

Remember prevention works! Individuals can save a lot of pain, worry and money by avoiding health problems. I encourage you to join the Walk Across Texas Program today.

Call or come by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Parker County office, located at 604 North Main Street, Suite 200, in Weatherford or call 817-598-6168 to pick up your Walk Across Texas Team Captain Packet.

Farce of Nature by Jones Hope Wooten

THEATRE OFF THE SQUARE IN WEATHERFORD proudly presents the second production of their 2018 Season of Shows. Farce of Nature is written by Jones Hope Wooten and is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. This hilarious comedy is directed by Marilyn Sanderson, with Tyler Burden as Assistant Director. The show dates are March 9 - 25, 2018.

Laughter increases by the minute in this Southern-fried farce. Spend an outrageously funny day with the Wilburn family of the Reel 'Um Inn in Mayhew, Arkansas as they try to save their fishing lodge from the likes of gangsters, love-starved females, jealous husbands, ruthless corporate executives, and a cranky senior citizen packing heat. In the crazy romp that ensues, they all hide, lie, and chase one another throughout the lodge. By the chaotic climax of this one remarkable day, everyone changes in surprising ways. "The side-splittingly funny Jones Hope Wooten comedy is guaranteed to win your audiences over - hook, line, and sinker!"

Members of the cast are Toni Ogle as Wanelle Wilburn; Mark Gillies as D. Gene Wilburn; Amy Davis as Jenna Sealy; Charlotte Wasson as Maxie Wilburn Suggs; Christian Lopez as Carmine DeLuca; Tyler Burden as Ty Wilburn; Jennifer Brown as Lola Barbosa; Cameron Cutshall as Sonny Barbosa; and Michelle Newman as Roxanne Thorne.

Attend an afternoon or evening of entertainment beginning Friday, March 9, running weekends through Sunday, March 25. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Theatre Off The Square, the only continuous live theatre in Parker County, is located at 114 North Denton Street, Weatherford.
