GeoTech Conference at Bishop Dunne School
The 24th GeoTech Conference, hosted by Bishop Dunne Catholic School, is an annual professional development conference bringing explorers, scientists, astronauts, and photographers to share their expertise and work with students and the broader community.
This year, Bishop Dunne welcomes Lillygol Sedaghat, National Geographic Explorer and spokesperson for NG’s Planet or Plastic? campaign, a multi-year effort to change people’s consumer and living practices to reduce single-use plastic.
Ms. Sedaghat will speak at Bishop Dunne on Feb. 27, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., about her work to raise awareness about trash as a commodity through her digital storytelling efforts and the #MyWasteMyWay global movement.
GeoTech supports the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and GIS (Geographic Information System) work of students at Bishop Dunne Catholic School. Students’ GIS work has supported the community, including mapping and data collection projects for the city of Dallas, the Dallas Police Department, and the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center.
Past GeoTech conferences at Bishop Dunne welcomed speakers like Dr. Jane Goodall (1999), Dr. Mae Jemison (2006), Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson (2009), filmmaker James Balog (2015), and National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore (2016). Complete list of past keynote speakers.
