Austin String Band Festival

The Twelfth Annual Austin String Band Festival will be held on October 20-22, 2017, just west of Austin at beautiful Camp Ben McCulloch near Driftwood, Texas. It's one of the best-kept secrets in the Austin area, a music festival with small crowds in a lovely natural setting, with close-in parking.  Presented by the Austin Friends of Traditional Music, this festival celebrates all kinds of regional string band music with live acoustic performances, workshops, jams, dancing, and great food.

This year's headliner band is one of America’s most renowned fiddlers, Bruce Molsky, with his band Molsky’s Mountain Drifters. Also performing are traditional conjunto legends Rabbit Sanchez and Lorenzo Martinez, renowned Cajun musicians Jesse Lege and Peter Schwarz, old Texas fiddle tune masters Spencer &Rains Trio, and beloved local old time band The Barn Owls.

On Friday, enjoy live music, old time square dancing and honky-tonk, and campground jamming all night.  Early on Saturday, attend hands-on music and dance workshops under the trees then kick back for a day and night of nonstop fiddles, banjos and guitars as more than two dozen concert and dance bands take the stage, with jamming all over the festival site. The music ranges from old-time to bluegrass, traditional Conjunto, Cajun dance hall , and honky tonk. Sunday wraps it up with an open gospel sing.

Camping is at its finest in our lovely October weather, available at various sites along Onion Creek on a first come, first served basis. Camping permits, with or without electricity, are sold in the festival ticket booth beginning at noon on Friday. Sorry, no dogs are allowed; a list of kennels is available.

You can purchase tickets in advance at http://asbf.brownpapertickets.com/  AND at the festival admissions gate beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 20th, 2017.

For more information, and to see the festival lineup and schedule, visit the Austin Friends of Traditional Music website at http://www.aftm.us/
