Workforce Solutions offering a course to cover walking & working surfaces, on Tuesday, September 26th, 8:00-12:00. The cost is $125.00.

A leading cause of worker-related injury & death comes from slipping, tripping, or falling from work surfaces such as floors, platforms, portable & fixed ladders, stairs, & ramps. This course will review the changes to subparts D & I of 29 CFR 1910 that contains occupational safety standards for general industry.

Norman Wirzba Comes To Milligan College

Norman Wirzba, professor of theology, ecology, and agrarian studies at Duke University Divinity School, is the author of such books as "Way of Love," "The Paradise of God" and "Living the Sabbath." His scholarly work centers on equipping both urban and rural church communities to be more faithful and responsibile members of creation. For his morning Convocation lecture, Wirzba's topic will be "Sabbath"; in the evening Honors Colloqium he will speak on "Food and Faith." This event is FREE and open to the public.

Emerge Women's Professional Development Training

Regional and National Leaders Bring Women’s Professional Development to Kingsport on September 29

YWCA Bristol will host its final live event for 2017 for their Emerge Women’s Professional Series in Kingsport on Friday, September 29.  Emerge is a quarterly workshop led by local, regional and national experts with trainings specifically geared for women at all levels of their professional career. 

The September 29 workshop, hosted at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education, will feature inspirational presenters providing women with resources and strategies to enhance their professional development.

Bethany Flora, is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in the Clemmer College of Education at East Tennessee State University where she also serves as the Associate Director for the Center for Community College Leadership. Dr. Flora will teach attendees to “Lean In. Step Back. Stand Firm.” By encouraging women to take educated risks and enjoy the adventures in their professional lives.  She will also teach women to know when to use the unique gifts of nurturance and intuitive sensing when things may need adjusting.

Jeanine Joy, Ph. D., is an author, international speaker, Founder and CEO of Happiness 1st Institute. Dr. Joy followed a non-traditional path to mastering the knowledge she shares by pursuing a passionate interest with determination for more than two decades. Happiness 1st Institute approaches employee engagement, change management, positivity training, resilience building, intrinsic motivation and stress reduction at the root cause level.  Dr. Joy will discuss “Burnout: Prevention and Recovery, Resilience and Retention” to give attendees strategies that develop and reinforce an internal locus of control and understand factors that have a major influence on burnout.

Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers, are co-hosts of the popular podcast, Pantsuit Politics. Sarah is a professional blogger and social media consultant and currently serves on the City Commission in her hometown of Paducah, KY.  Beth is a Human Resources Executive, attorney and yoga instructor.  Together the pair will discuss “Finding Your Voice: Collective Collaboration”, in which they will teach how to speak with power and respect to bring divergent viewpoints together, and how to sift through media noise to make informed decisions.

 

Attendees at the Emerge Conference will also be awarded .4 Continuing Education Unit credit by Northeast State Community College.

The Artists Alliance of the Hill Country (AAHC) is spotlighting over 50 juried artists at The SHOW of Dripping Springs as a two-day Fine Art Event. Artists will display their work in the 12,000 square foot air-conditioned exhibition hall with musicians performing original songs on stage throughout the two day event. Guest admission and parking to the event is free. Fine Original Artwork will include Digital, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Mixed Media, Paintings, Photography, Printmaking, and Woodwork from all over Texas, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and South Dakota. This is the season finale for Muddy Creek Raceway and the last event of the United States Mega Series. Riders have been competing in 5 States since March to win MEGA series Titles. This is an AMA PRO-AM sanctioned event that always draws the best amateur riders from around the country. Friday is a practice day, Saturday is a race, and Sunday is the Finals.

Touch-a-Truck

This exciting community event allows children the opportunity to learn firsthand about all types of working trucks and service vehicles by exploring them and interacting with the people who build, protect, and serve our local community. Vehicles will include everything from police cars to construction trucks to farm equipment, and the fun will not stop there! Vendors and League members will also offer food, games, crafts, and more. Food trucks will provide additional kid-friendly food options for attendees.

There will be a “quiet hour” from 12 to 1pm. This time will allow children and individuals with sound sensitivities or sensory disorders to come out and enjoy the day! There will truly be something for everyone!

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased ahead of time online or through a League member or at the door the day of the event. All proceeds from Touch-A-Truck will go back into our local community. For more information, contact funddeveloper@juniorleagueofjc.com.

Legendary musician Eddie Money burst onto the scene with his self titled debut album in 1977. Fans immediately fell in love with Money’s sound, and the album, which went double platinum, featured hits like “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise.” Money followed the success of his debut album with a stream of Top 40 hits, as well as some of the era’s most creative videos for songs like “Think I’m in Love” and “Shakin.” In 1986, Money released Can’t Hold Back, which featured the classic, Grammy®-nominated duet with Ronnie Spector, “Take Me Home Tonight.” The song reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went platinum and also featured the hit “I Wanna Go Back.”

These days, Money continues to delight new and old fans alike at venues throughout the country. Money’s blue-collar brand of Rock ‘n Roll has managed to transcend generations. Having sold more than 28 million records, Money draws fans from all over who are eager to see the legendary musician.
