Johnson City Jazz Festival

The inaugural Johnson City Jazz Festival, a three-day showcase of live jazz music, is scheduled for May 18-20 at three locations in and around downtown.

The event is being produced by volunteers to promote live jazz in the region. The schedule includes a free Thursday night jam at Carnegie Hotel, a free Friday night concert at Founders Park, and the main event on Saturday -- a ticketed concert at TVA Credit Union Ballpark (formerly Cardinal Park) featuring six different artists.

Steve Scheu of Time & Pay is leading the effort and is the major sponsor.
"We have some great jazz artists in our region but there just aren't that many opportunities to see live jazz," said Scheu. "This new festival showcases the amazing talent we have around here, plus it features some very talented artists from outside our area. And we've worked hard to make it affordable for everyone."

The event schedule includes:

JC Jazz Jam - Special Edition at Carnegie Hotel
Thursday, May 18, 8-11 p.m.
Lineup:
· Maureen Renihan and Richard Shulman
· Hot Club of the Mountains
· Bill Perkins Quartet with Tom Peterson
· The Funky Truth with Danny Farmer and Martin Walters

The Marshall Tucker Band

The Marshall Tucker Band
tab-stops:23.0pt">In the early fall of 1973, The Marshall Tucker Band was still a young and hungry group out to prove themselves every time they hit the stage. “We were a bunch of young guys who didn’t know any boundaries,” says founding member and longtime lead singer Doug Gray.  As it turned out, the collective talents of The Marshall Tucker Band took them very far indeed.

Years of rigorous tour schedules earned the band the respect of critics and countless dedicated fans. With hit singles like “Heard It In a Love Song,” “Fire On The Mountain,” “Can’t You See,” and “Take The Highway,” The Marshall Tucker Band earned seven gold and three platinum albums. In years to come, The Marshall Tucker Band would wow critics and influence major country acts like Alabama, The Kentucky Headhunters, Confederate Railroad, and Travis Tritt with its definitive blend of rock, rhythm & blues, jazz, country, and gospel. Now, thanks to the expanding scope of today’s music, a new generation of fans is learning what the rest of their fans have known for so long - that good music knows no boundaries. After 40 years, The Marshall Tucker Band continues to be played on classic rock and country radio, and they have never stopped touring.
