"Wine A Little For Charity" at Olive Oil Divine
This charity-event-wine-tasting is co-hosted by BCS Wealth Management and Olive Oil Divine as a silent auction benefit for the "Greene Young Life" program!


The wine tasting evening will be conducted by a professional wine scholar who will guide you through tasting of the hand selected wines with complimentary Hors d'oeuvres paired with Olive Oil Divine's authentic olive oils and aged balsamic vinegars. 

You will have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items while browsing through the tasting aisles of Olive Oil Divine's oil & vinegar!

Tickets are $30 each.
Ticket proceeds and auction items will benefit "Greene Young Life".

Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase a 3D mammography unit for Sycamore Shoals Hospital. This new technology enables earlier and more accurate detection of cancer than the traditional two-dimensional equipment. A stand-up comedian, television hostess, author, and now actress, Pierce has channeled her life experiences into positivity, bringing laughter to audiences around the country. As the RIAA’s best-selling female comedian, her hilarious take on life is easily relatable as she publicly opens up to her listeners about times of darkness and depression in her own life, drawing humor and good from every situation.

 

Pierce got her start working at Opryland Theme Park in Nashville where she performed as Grand Ole Opry star Minnie Pearl. After deciding to pursue comedy full-time Pierce turned her gift of storytelling into a successful comedic career, selling more comic albums than any other female comedian. In addition to her ten successful albums to date, she has also authored eight books and appears at venues big and small throughout the United States. Today, Pierce continues to bring the laughs with her unique blend of music and comedy.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created.

The event raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

This Race is unique in the fact that 100% of the net proceeds are allocated to our mission. 75 percent of the net income stays in our community to help fund local programs offering breast cancer screening, education and patient assistance. The remaining 25 percent of the net income supports the Susan G. Komen® Grants Program.

Johnson City Jazz Festival

The inaugural Johnson City Jazz Festival, a three-day showcase of live jazz music, is scheduled for May 18-20 at three locations in and around downtown.

The event is being produced by volunteers to promote live jazz in the region. The schedule includes a free Thursday night jam at Carnegie Hotel, a free Friday night concert at Founders Park, and the main event on Saturday -- a ticketed concert at TVA Credit Union Ballpark (formerly Cardinal Park) featuring six different artists.

Steve Scheu of Time & Pay is leading the effort and is the major sponsor.
"We have some great jazz artists in our region but there just aren't that many opportunities to see live jazz," said Scheu. "This new festival showcases the amazing talent we have around here, plus it features some very talented artists from outside our area. And we've worked hard to make it affordable for everyone."

Citizens are invited to put on their dancing shoes and join Senior Services from 7-10 p.m. on May 19 for a Friday Night Dance. Kids Our Age will provide musical entertainment for the dance, which will be held at Memorial Park Community Center, 510 Bert St.

 

The dance is open to ages 50+. Admission is $5 per person; Silver Sneakers® discount is available for eligible members. Patrons may pay at the door. Please register in person at the MPCC Senior Services desk.
