Junior League of Johnson City Touch-A-Truck

Junior League of Johnson City Touch-A-Truck
This exciting community event allows children the opportunity to learn firsthand about all types of working trucks and service vehicles by exploring them and interacting with the people who build, protect, and serve our local community. Vehicles will include everything from police cars to construction trucks to farm equipment, and the fun will not stop there! Vendors and League members will also offer food, games, crafts, and more. Food trucks will provide additional food options for attendees.

New this year will be a “quiet hour” from 12 to 1pm. This time will allow children and individuals with sound sensitivities or sensory disorders to come out and enjoy the day! There will truly be something for everyone!

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased ahead of time online or through a League member or at the door the day of the event. All proceeds from Touch-A-Truck will go back into our local community. For more information, contact funddeveloper@juniorleagueofjc.com.

Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery

At the age of 17, Scotty McCreery quickly established himself as one of country music’s hottest stars. By age 21, the talented singer/songwriter had sold nearly 2.5 million albums and received both Platinum and Gold album certifications, debuted three consecutive albums at No. 1 on a Billboard chart, achieved three Platinum-certified singles and two Top Ten hits, and had toured with the industries biggest names. And he’s just getting started!

His deep voice and irresistible sound create the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional country.  After winning Season Ten of American Idol and capturing the hearts of millions of television viewers nationwide, McCreery released his debut album, which was the best-selling solo album release by a country artist in 2011. He became the youngest man in history to have his first album debut atop the all-genre Billboard Top 200 albums chart. McCreery’s hits from that album, “I Love You This Big” and “The Trouble with Girls” became certified Platinum. Chart toppers followed from his sophomore album with “Feelin’ It” and “See You Tonight.” Soon after the album’s release, McCreery won the Breakthrough Artist Award at the 2013 American Country Awards. He has begun work on his third studio album, with plans for new music later in the year.

Sawyer Brown

Sawyer Brown

With more than 4,500 shows, 23 albums, over 50 chart singles, and a number of CMA, ACM, and CMT awards behind them, Sawyer Brown has earned its place as one of the premier live acts in music.

Since the first time Sawyer Brown stepped foot onstage in the early 1980’s, and playing 275-300 nights a year for the first decade or more, the band has never come off the road. Tireless road warriors, Sawyer Brown thrives on playing live. The band’s live shows are legendary. Having been described as “the Rolling Stones of Country Music,” the band bounds on stage night after night.

Capturing moments that matter in a song is what the band has always tried to do. From the tentative moments of transition that underscore the evocative ballad “The Walk” to the moment that a guy realizes he just might have found the right girl in the energetic signature song “Some Girls Do,” the band consistently manages to bring life to those moments that all to often slip by unnoticed.

The Temptations

The Temptations

For more than fifty years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits and sold-out performances throughout the world.

The Temptations began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties and in 1964, the song “The Way You Do the Things You Do” turned the group into stars. An avalanche of hits followed with “My Girl,”  “Get Ready,” and “I Wish It Would Rain.” Through the 70’s and 80’s hits continued to burn with intensity. “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and “Treat Her Like a Lady” still smolder today.

The current line-up consists of Otis Williams, the only remaining original member, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Larry Braggs, and Willie Greene, Jr. After all these years, the Temps are still going strong. “The more we change,” says veteran Ron Tyson, “the more we stay true to ourselves. We’re about singing straight-up soul. It’s a style that will live on forever.” “Great singing,” says Otis,  “will always prevail.” And so the Temptations go on... and on... and on.

All proceeds from this performance benefit Takoma Regional Hospital Foundation.

SHU-DE! (Let's Go), Documentary Film

In 2011, Baltimore beat boxer and vocal percussionist Shodekeh met the Alash Ensemble, known for their Tuvan throat singing, a technique for singing two or more pitches simultaneously. Taking only a small knapsack, Shodekeh journeyed to Tuva to study their music and culture, while sharing his own vocal artistry, and filmmaker Michael Faulkner followed the beat boxer to document the intermingling of music and cultures. SHU-DE! – which is Tuvan for “let’s go” – presents viewers with a sensory experience of music and landscape through the vastness of Tuva and the human voice, revealing the sounds that unfold with collaboration. Mary B. Martin School of the Arts presents the documentary film SHU-DE! with director Faulkner as part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers on Monday, October 17 at 7 p.m. in ETSU’s Martha Street Culp Auditorium.
