Caladh Nua is a tightly knit, vibrant and staggeringly talented band with its origins deeply rooted in the Southern counties of Ireland. Comprised of five versatile musicians and singers playing a wide selection of instruments - from banjo to fiddle, guitar to bodhran, and tin whistle to button accordion, the band has captured the essential qualities of traditional Irish music and balanced them finely with an innovative contemporary flair.

Through a series of international tours and festivals across the globe, which saw the band take the stage in cities such as Paris, Vienna, Copenhagen, Berlin, Mumbai and Vancouver, Caladh Nua has cast a uniquely captivating net of Irish music and song over an ever-widening worldwide audience.

A long list of TV and radio broadcasts of their performances and two acclaimed recordings includes American Public Radio, the BBC, and RTE. Performing a vast repertoire of haunting songs and evocative Irish tunes, Caladh Nua is a young ensemble on the rise.

Adapted from Margaret Wise Brown’s sixty-year-old classic, Goodnight Moon is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while The Runaway Bunny’s pretend tale of leaving home evokes reassuring responses from his loving mum. Both feature the endearing animal puppets, stunning scenic effects and evocative music to provide very young audiences with an effortless introduction to the performing arts and the excitement of reading. This staged adaptation, performed by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, brings a fresh appreciation of the stories and images that have delighted several generations.

On tour since 2008, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia’s acclaimed show continues to attract new and returning fans. To date, close to 200,000 spectators throughout Canada and the US as well as in Hong Kong and Macau, have applauded more than 375 performances.

The Milligan Concert Choir and Orchestra present a moving performance of Stabat Mater by contemporary British composer Cecilia McDowall featuring special guests the Civic Chorale and the East Tennessee Children’s Choir. This powerful work, which premiered in 2004, reflects on Mary’s sorrow as she witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. The concert will also include individual performances by the three participating choirs and the orchestra. The concert is free for students. Abi Bethea, who is from Eastanollee, GA, will showcase her photography in a senior exhibition that runs from March 20 – March 25. The openin reception will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 20.

Explore five regions of France through food!  Sheridan Nice is a classically trained French chef, and will teach French cooking techniques culminating in a three course meal each week. 

Meets for six weeks at Food City, 920 N. State of Franklin Rd in the upstairs demonstration kitchen.

Have lunch with Linda Davis, Employment Security Administrator of the TN Department of Labor and Workforce Development.  Ms. Davis will introduce a new system initiative - streamlining the unemployment processes, which will give employers easier accessibility to the Unemployment Insurance System.

The Johnson City Symphony Orchestra Presents its annual Fundraising event-"Symphonic Mischief".  Join the Symphony at the Johnson City Country Club for fun, food and mischievous music provided by symphony musicians.  Mystery Bags for $20 will be available for purchase and a Live Auction will feature several exciting items.  Tickets are $100 per person and are available at www.jcsymphony.com/events.
