Open House - Lower Southampton Early Learning Center

The Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) is holding an open house on Wednesday December 7, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00pm to introduce to the public their new Early Learning Center for children ages birth to five. Located in the former Lower Southampton Elementary School at 7 School Lane in Feasterville-Trevose PA, this inclusive education model supports learning, acceptance, development, and growth by integrating a preschool environment with Early Intervention, Head Start, and Early Head Start programs.  Early Intervention Programs support children with special needs at the earliest possible age while Head Start and Early Head Start focus on income eligible children and families with services supporting early learning, health and nutrition, and family well-being.

By integrating programs that have traditionally been segregated, into a preschool environment, this new Early Learning Center enhances and advances the educational and developmental experience of all the children. This all-encompassing model promotes a better understanding and acceptance of each child’s uniqueness, while cultivating within them a passion for discovery and advancement. The children broaden their ability to adapt, support, and perform, by developing additional critical learning and social skills.

“We continually strive to provide our students with a broader, richer environment in which to advance both educationally and on a personal level,” stated Dr. Deborah Lock, Assistant Director of Special Education at the Bucks IU. “As an Intermediate Unit, we are very proud to be at the leading edge of new concepts and programs like this that are what other communities and IUs across the state are looking to implement.”

This open house is free and open to the public. To enhance the new school’s library, donations of new or gently-used children’s books are welcome and would be greatly appreciated. For more details, information, or special accommodations regarding attendance, please contact Alyssa Trunzo at 215-348-2940 extension 8800 or email her at hs-atrunzo@bucksiu.org.

Women's Humane Society Open House

Women's Humane Society Open House

The Women’s Humane Society Animal Hospital has achieved the highest level of veterinary excellence following a thorough evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). The Women’s Humane Society earned AAHA accreditation after a rigorous review of the hospital’s practice protocols, medical equipment, facility and client services.

The Women’s Humane Society is now among just 12% of veterinary hospitals and one in nineteen humane societies/SPCA’s across the U.S. and Canada to hold this accreditation.

To celebrate this achievement, the Women’s Humane Society is hosting an Open House for the community on the evening of Thursday, February 23. The public is invited to drop in any time between 5:30-7:30pm to meet the veterinary staff and tour the hospital and adoption center. The event will include refreshments, children’s activities, and educational demonstrations.

The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged. Those who register online will receive a complimentary goodie bag.

The Women's Humane Society was founded in 1869 as the First Animal Shelter and Adoptions Program in America.
