Speakers:
Kari Watkins, Executive Director, OKC National Memorial and Museum;
and Derek Smithee, Survivor
Learn about the history of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah building from the museum and memorial's executive director, Kari Watkins. She will walk us through that day and the days following as they worked to build a place for remembrance, peace, learning and hope.
Following Kari, we will hear the story of Derek Smithee. Derek was working at the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, located across from the Murrah Federal Building, when the bomb went off on April 19, 1995. He continued to work at the Water Resources Board as Chief of the Water Quality Programs Division until his retirement a couple of years ago. Derek will share his story of survival and what helped in his recovery.
After lunch, our group will tour the museum. Please block off at least two hours for this event.
