Ableson Religious Reconciliation Lecture: Qutaiba Idlibi

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma will welcome Qutaiba Idlibi as the keynote speaker of the seventh annual Ableson Religious Reconciliation Lecture on Sept. 11. Starting at 7 p.m. in the USAO Ballroom, the Syrian social entrepreneur and refugee advocate will give a talk entitled “Stories of Revolution, Religion and Pre-war Syria.”

After Syrian security officials detained and tortured him twice in 2011, Idlibi was forced to leave the country. He is currently a non-resident fellow at the Global Policy Institute, analyzing education and security policy in the Middle East. In 2013, he co-founded People Demand Change in response to the changes taking place across the region. The organization’s mission is to create a better, more streamlined model for providing long-term aid and support to civil society activists.
