ArtScope and ArtScope STUDIO 2017 - Art Day Camps for 8-18's

 

ArtScope 2017 and ArtScope STUDIO camps will soon be here and you are invited to register NOW to ensure your place in this FUN fine arts experience!

ArtScope, an activity of the Chickasha Area Arts Council (CAAC), is a two-week, summer arts day camp for children, ages 8 to 12. It is held on the campus of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO), Chickasha. 

 

ALSO … A NEW offering this summer is ArtScope STUDIO, designed specifically for 13-18 year old students. Participants will be involved in an in-depth three-hour Visual Arts study from 9 am to 12 noon on Monday through Friday, June 5-16, 2017. Carrie Chavers, local artist, teacher and veteran ArtScope visual arts instructor will facilitate this new class. 

 

Students, who have ‘aged out’ of ArtScope as well as those who have never attended ArtScope but want to participate in a Visual Arts camp, are invited to register soon for ‘ArtScope STUDIO. At least 10 students are needed to have this special class. 

 

Both ‘Super Heroes’ ArtScope Day Camp and ArtScope STUDIO begin Monday, June 5 and end Friday, June 16, 2017 following the entertaining and impressive afternoon SHOWCASE presentation in USAO’s Te Ata Auditorium.

ArtScope enrollment is limited to 80 students, ages 8 to 12, for the all-day program which begins at 9 am and ends at 4 pm.  

ArtScope campers will study ‘The Arts’ through drawing, painting, sculpting, theatre, dance, and music experiences, as well as learn from a special presentation by a guest artist. 

 

The instructors for ArtScope 2017 have extensive experience as both teaching and performing artists. The highly qualified staff of ‘Super Heroes’ ArtScope include: Dance - Emily Hector Godwin, Music - Crystal Wyatt, Theatre - Robert Story, Visual Arts - Amber Heilman and Allison Ledford. 

 

Emily Hector Godwin and Jeanie Lee are the Co-Directors of ArtScope day camp and ArtScope STUDIO.

 

ArtScope and ArtScope STUDIO students are encouraged to apply before Monday, May 15, to avoid a $20 late fee.

 

The total fee for ArtScope STUDIO is $100, which includes the $25 non-refundable deposit, is required with all registration.

 

The total fee for ArtScope is $195, which includes the $25 non-refundable deposit, is required with all registrations. 

 

Student scholarships for ArtScope may be available for those who are eligible and who agree to attend camp every day.   There are no scholarships available for ArtScope STUDIO.

 

Other ArtScope scholarships may be available for students who might have difficulty attending the day camp without some financial assistance.

 

The ArtScope scholarship application must be postmarked by Monday, May 1, 2017. If funds are available, all remaining scholarships will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis after the deadline of May 1.

Oklahoma Civil War Symposium

As part of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s continuing work to highlight what is unique about Oklahoma, the university is transforming its annual summer history symposium to the Oklahoma Civil War Symposium. 

Beginning at 2 p.m. on June 19 in Te Ata Memorial Auditorium, the symposium will feature three renowned Civil War scholars discussing wide-ranging aspects of the conflict. The final speaker will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and a book signing with all three presenters will follow.

This year’s lineup will include Dr. James Finck, USAO; Dr. Caroline Janney, Purdue University; and Dr. Harold Holzer, Hunter College.

Ableson Religious Reconciliation Lecture

In the second part of the 2017 Ableson Religious Reconciliation Lecture, Venerable Geshe Lobsang Chophel, a Tibetan Buddhist monk, will return to campus to discuss the Buddhist approach to peace and compassion in the modern world. During the day, Chophel and his fellow monks will craft a mandala, a sand painting filled with sacred iconography, that will be swept away at the end of the event. The painstaking craftsmanship and its erasure symbolize the impermanence of all things, one of the major tenets of Buddhism.

Goodwill's 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Oklahoma & North Texas, Inc. is hosting their 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, September 25th at the Lawton County Club.  Registration opens at 10:30 am (unless you have preregistered) with lunch at 11:00 am and a shotgun start at 12:00 noon.  All monies raised from the golf tournament will benefit our Goodwill programs.  Programs like our Adult Day & Youth Services (for youth with special needs), Workforce Development Center, Career Development Center, VITA (Free income tax preparation during tax season) and our Goodwill Maximum Independence Scholarship program.  With recent federal and state funding cuts that have directly impacted some of our programs, we are hosting this tournament to help offset some of these cuts.

The top 3 teams will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000 for the 1st Place Team, $600 for the 2nd Place Team and $300 for the 3rd Place Team.  We will kick off the tournament with a Putting Contest and the winners will have their choice of a $125.00 Card from a major retailer.  A randomly drawn prize will be awarded an additional team and door prizes will be given to individual players. There will be 5 chances to win a Hole in One prize throughout the course to include a car and motorcycle.
