Yogathon
Yogathon is a day-long marathon of unique yoga classes - and all proceeds raised benefit the Yoga by Design Foundation. Karma Yoga in Bloomfield Hills generously donates their space for the day, so all proceeds from the event directly support yoga, mindfulness & meditation programs for underserved populations in Michigan. Festivities also include a raffle with a unique selection of prizes, unique vendors and gift bags for every participant.

JDRF One Walk (Walk to Cure Type 1 Diabetes)

Hosting over 4,000 walkers, JDRF's mission is to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes, most commonly known as Juvenile Diabetes.  As a fundraising walk, walk teams and individuals from all over Southeast Michigan gather together as a community with the same goal in mind, which is to eradicate type 1 diabetes.  Type 1 diabetes (T1D) can strike anyone at any age and has no connection to diet or exercise.  It's an autoimmune disease that cannot be prevented or cured.  It renders a person insulin depend for life.  Insulin is absolutely needed to live.  We need your help to help us raise as much money for T1D research as possible. Women of Influence Lecture Series

Presented by The Community House, this four-part series will feature female leaders who are shaping Michigan’s cultural and societal landscape. Each evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and headlines a different influential woman.

Sept. 27 – Jenenne Whitfield, president and CEO of the Heidelberg Project
Oct. 3 – Angela Rogensues, executive director of Playworks Michigan
Oct. 8 – Terry Barclay, president and CEO of Inforum
Oct. 18 – Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, president of Oakland University.

Tickets are $15 per lecture or $45 for the whole series, available now at communityhouse.com

The Community House is a 95-year-old non-profit resource and destination for personal, professional, recreational, and philanthropic pursuits. It is home to hundreds of classes, camps, and social/charitable events annually. They also host an elite early childhood center and 14 other community non-profit organizations which are supported through The Community House’s resources.

Creative Vegetable Gardening

 

Meadow Brook Garden Club presents guest speaker Art Cameron, PhD. Dr. Cameron is a Professor of Horticulture at Michigan State University, Director of the MSU Horticulture Gardens and an avid botanist and gardener. He will give tricks that can make vegetable gardening more fun and productive. He will cover bed preparation, watering systems, pest management and weed control among other topics. Tips for harvesting, storing and cooking vegetables will also be shared. Coffee and refreshments will be served at 9:15 a.m. with program to follow at 10:00 a.m. Guests are welcome and reservations are not required. There is a $5 non-member fee.

CLF is the only statewide organization focused on providing this type of help, offering supportive programs and services to patients facing a blood cancer diagnosis completely free of cost. Birmingham, MI, September 26, 2018– Active Shooter Civilian Response Training Birmingham First will host Active Shooter Civilian Response Training on Monday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Christian Life Center

Central Michigan University, Royal Oak Post Office, Las Vegas concerts, a Texas church shooting…. How would you protect yourself and others if you were in one of these tragedies? Are there steps you can take to increase your odds of surviving a violent encounter?

Yes! As a service to our community, Birmingham First, a United Methodist Church, has partnered with the Birmingham Police Department to provide the community an evening training session using the #1 shooter civilian response training for all types of organizations.

ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training will be led by Birmingham police officer, Commander Scott Grewe, and provide preparation and a plan for individuals and groups to proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or and active shooter event. You will learn the new, accepted response that has improved results over the traditional “lockdown” response.

All are invited to attend this free event on Monday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Christian Life Center of Birmingham First. The church is located at 1589 W. Maple Road (between Southfield and Cranbrook) in Birmingham.
