A celebration of the Healthy For Good                    movement to promote walking as part of a healthy lifestyle and raise funds to support cardiovascular and stroke research and communiaty ducational programs for the Metro Detroit area bringing together over 150 SE Michigan companies and 12,000+ walkers. 

 

The annual event is a  fun-filled family oriented,        non-competitive 1 mile or 3 mile walking route or a Timed 5K Run.

 

Bring along the entire family to explore our heartwalking activities and be a part of the Healthy For Good movement!

Forever Families 5K Fun Run/Walk for Foster Care Awareness is a FUN, non-competitive, family-friendly fundraising event to support the mission of helping children in need find their forever home, as well as an opportunity to raise awareness about the needs of foster children in our community. Supporters of all ages, foster/adoptive families and health enthusiasts are invited to hit the pavement in support of children in need of a loving, nurturing home. In Michigan alone, there are 13,000 children in foster care due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. Forever Families is a licensed, non-profit child placing agency committed to providing education, preparation and support to ensure safe, loving, permanent homes for children in need.

Ladybug Giveaway

English Gardens stores will be giving away half a million ladybugs.  Gardeners can get one bag of 150 ladybugs free with any purchase. There is a limit to one bag of ladybugs per household. 

Ladybugs are the most popular organic pest control for the garden.  They’re beneficial insects, eating aphids, spider mites, immature whiteflies and other soft-bodies insect pests.  One bag of ladybugs will cover 150 square feet or approximately 10 shrubs.  For best results, release the ladybugs at the base of plants, at dusk after watering the infested area.

The Community House Hosts Father’s Day Feast

The Community House, 380 South Bates Street, Birmingham, will present a Father’s Day Feast on Sunday, June 18.  This outdoor event will take place under the beautiful Van Dusen tented terrace. In the event of inclement weather, the Father’s Day Feast will be moved inside The Community House.

The menu includes Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Grilled Chicken, Italian Sausage, Grilled Peppers and Onions, Cheesy Potatoes, Award Winning Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw, Mixed Green Salad, and a wide variety of desserts. A Cash Bar will be available.

 
Seatings for the feast are available at 12 and 2:30 p.m. The brunch is $32 for adults; $14 for children 4- 12; children 3 years of age and under are free. For reservations, contact The Community House, 248-644-5832.

Community House Hosts ParkArt

Get ready for an evening of fun for everyone! The community is invited to attend the fourth annual ParkArt, presented by The Community House on Thursday, June 22, 5-8 p.m. in Birmingham’s Shain Park.

ParkArt is an interactive, family oriented event that allows youth to partake in hands-on art projects.  The event also includes performances by The Community House Dance Academy. Art activities include Puppet Making, Fidget Spinners, Bookmark Craft, Slime Station, Photography, Spin Art, Storybook Art, and much more!

“We are thrilled to present ParkArt 2017 in Shain Park,” said Danny DeRose, Director of Programs & Enrichment for The Community House. “We have a new and expanded lineup of activites, including something for kids of all ages. ParkArt is sure to be an evening of fun for everyone!”
