The President’s Advisory Council of The Community House Host

The President’s Advisory Council of The Community House Host

The President’s Advisory Council (PAC), a supported group of The Community House, will host Birmingham Downs on Saturday, May 6, 5-9 p.m. at the Community House, 380 S. Bates St., Birmingham. 

 

This fun and festive Kentucky Derby event will be held at The Community House and will include strolling food stations, beer, wine and cocktails, live entertainment, the running of the 143rd Kentucky Derby on the big screen, a silent auction and a charitable contribution to the mission of our 94-year old non-profit serving the community.

 

 “I am really excited about Birmingham Downs this year on Derby Day,” said Jeff Bagalis, co-Chair of the PAC. “This amazing event will be a great opportunity to network while enjoying the Kentucky Derby on the big screen with great cocktails, appetizers and live music. So come out and enjoy a wonderful evening, all to benefit The Community House, its programs, and the local nonprofit groups that rely on The Community House for support. I couldn't think of a better way to spend an evening for such a great cause!”

Annual 90 & Beyond Luncheon Scheduled for May 11

The Community House will host its 6th annual “90 & Beyond” luncheon, on Thursday, May 11, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at The Community House, 380 S. Bates St., in downtown Birmingham. 

 

“We are extremely proud to host our annual 90 and Beyond luncheon honoring those in our community who have reached the milestone age of 90 years and older!  Friends and family members are invited to attend the event, to celebrate, and thank these extraordinary individuals for their personal and professional contributions to the community,” said Kathie Ninneman, Senior Director, Community Engagement.  “The event, sponsored by Chemical Bank, will  include a ‘Sentimental Journey’ musical sing along led by performer Kerry Price.” 

 

Those 90 years of age and older can attend the luncheon for free. The ticket price for all others under the age of 90 is $35. When making their reservation, honorees will be invited to submit two photos of themselves—one “then” and one “now” for the featured photo presentation that will be shown at the luncheon. In addition, honorees will have the opportunity to have a commemorative photo taken, courtesy of Aly Darin Photography, as a keepsake of the celebration.

Art Birmingham

Art Birmingham, originally known as the Birmingham Fine Art Festival, celebrates its 35th annual return to Shain Park, downtown Birmingham’s newly and extensively redesigned city park. Mother's Day Brunch at The Community House

The Community House, 380 South Bates Street, Birmingham, will present a Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 14. 

 

The menu includes a complete Breakfast Station with Bananas Foster French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon & Sausage and Breakfast Potatoes. The Lunch Station will offer Seared Atlantic Salmon in a Lemon Butter Sauce, Eggplant Parmesan, Chicken Piccata, Award Winning Mac & Cheese, Chef’s Choice Vegetable and a variety of chef prepared salads and accompaniments. Other options include a Carving Station with Beef Tenderloin served with Horseradish Cream Sauce. The brunch is completed with Danish, Muffins, Fresh Fruit & Berries and a wide variety of desserts. Cash Bar will be available.

Ladybug Giveaway

English Gardens stores will be giving away half a million ladybugs.  Gardeners can get one bag of 150 ladybugs free with any purchase. There is a limit to one bag of ladybugs per household. 

Ladybugs are the most popular organic pest control for the garden.  They’re beneficial insects, eating aphids, spider mites, immature whiteflies and other soft-bodies insect pests.  One bag of ladybugs will cover 150 square feet or approximately 10 shrubs.  For best results, release the ladybugs at the base of plants, at dusk after watering the infested area.
