Third Annual Light of Literacy Awards Breakfast
The Third Annual Light of Literacy Awards Ceremony will be held on April 9, 2015 from 8-10 a.m. Presented by the Friends of Wicomico Public Libraries, this event recognizes the dedication of everyday individuals doing extraordinary work in promoting the power of literacy throughout the community. The Light of Literacy Awards brings together leaders from around the area to recognize those who are luminaries in our community, lighting the way for others by their example. By recognizing individuals and organizations who promote literacy, and by raising public awareness of their work, the Friends hope to multiply their efforts and the effect they have in the community. This will benefit those who volunteer, those who are helped by these volunteers, and those with literacy needs seeking assistance.

Small Business Enterprise (SBE) & Minority Business Enterpri
The MBE program will be providing an Application Assistance class which will offer a comprehensive review of the certification process that is administered by the Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Office of Minority Business Enterprise (OMBE) to ensure that only bona fide minority and women-owned firms receive this certification. There are more than 5,500 certified firms in the State’s program. MBE will be cover the benefits of certification, the five key requirements for certification and the four steps in the certification process.
The SBE Program provides opportunities for qualifying small businesses to be a prime contractor on federally funded contracts with the State Highway Administration (SHA), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), and Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA).
The SBE/MBE Workshop provides valuable information to small, minority, and/or women– owned firms seeking to expand their businesses through MDOT. Participants who attend the workshop will be well-positioned to seek business opportunities
