Cooking with Fire
Paula Marcoux is a food historian who lives in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The author of Cooking Fire (Storey, 2014), she has worked professionally as an archaeologist, cook, and breadoven builder. The food editor of edible South Shore and South Coast magazine, she writes on food history topics for popular and academic audiences, and consults with museums, film producers, and publishers. Paula is the director of Plymouth Center for Restoration Arts and Forgotten Trades (PlymouthCRAFT.org).
There is no admission fee, though donations will be gratefully accepted. Coffee and cookies will be provided. In the case of substantial snow cover, the event will be moved to a future date. Magic and Story Old Colony YMCA Plymouth Branch Event

11:00am-12:00pm: Little Flippers Storytime
Join the National Marine Life Center for a marine animal-themed story time and craft project! Different themes every day (see website). All ages welcome; most suitable for children ages 3-8. Children must be supervised. Program lasts 45-60 minutes.
12:00pm-1:00pm: Patient Update
Learn the stories of the marine animal patients currently in our care from a member of the National Marine Life Center’s Animal Care Team. View our sea turtles and seals via live TV and meet our small turtles in person. Program lasts approximately 15-20 minutes.
1:00pm-2:00pm: Marine Animal Medical Mystery
What does it take to be a marine animal care technician? What are some of the questions and “mysteries” involved in wildlife rehabilitation? Each day, using models, we'll learn how to care for a different animal (see website for themes). Best suited for ages 8-14. Program lasts 45-60 minutes.
2:00pm-3:00pm: Patient Update
3:00pm-4:00pm: Engineering Design Challenge: Animal Prosthetics
How do you help an animal with an injured or missing limb? What can you do for a turtle with a damaged leg or shell? Discover how technology is being used to help disabled animals, and then complete an engineering challenge to design your own prosthetic device for a marine animal. Best suited for ages 8-14. Program lasts 45-60 minutes.
