AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION BLS CPR

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION BLS CPR

The BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver, appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

Deborah Cramer Book Talk and Signing

Deborah Cramer Book Talk and Signing

In her award-winning book The Narrow Edge: A Tiny Bird, An Ancient Crab, and an Epic Journey, Deborah Cramer accompanies small sandpipers - Red Knots - on their extraordinary migration between the southern tip of South America and their Arctic nesting grounds.  Both the knots and the horseshoe crabs whose tiny eggs fuel the birds’ extraordinary migration appear on the South Shore, and ornithologists living and working here have brought this inspiring story to light.

The Narrow Edge received the 2016 Rachel Carson Book Award from the Society of Environmental Journalists, and the 2016 Best Book Award from the National Academies of Science.

Join Deborah at the Spire Theater on September 27, 2017 to follow the inspiring journey of the birds, and to explore how the lives of shorebirds, horseshoe crabs and humans are intertwined.  Book signing to follow.

Cramer’s appearance is free courtesy of the sponsorship of three local environmental organizations: The Living Observatory, The Herring Pond Watershed Association, and the Southeastern Massachusetts Pine Barrens Alliance.

Wednesday, September 27, 2017 6:30 PM thru 09:00 PM

Cranberry Harvest Celebration

The Cranberry Harvest Celebration returns to Wareham Columbus Day weekend, with a something for everyone! This year for a small fee, visitors to this popular event can don waders and jump into the cranberry bog full of floating berries, for selfies or just plain fun.

Now in its 14th year, the Celebration is one of the region’s most popular fall events. Get a first-hand look at the cranberry harvest, enjoy live music and food demonstrations, shop our juried crafter tent and Farmers’ Market, view the birds of prey exhibit, take a paddleboat ride on scenic Tihonet Pond, take in the scenery by helicopter and much more.

The highlight of the day is a quick ride out to the A.D. Makepeace Company’s Frogfoot cranberry bogs, where guests can view all phases of the wet and dry harvest throughout the day, with explanations by experienced growers.

The event attracts attendees from all around the world – and right next door. Last year, one reviewer wrote, “Being at your farm made us stop and appreciate where we live…. We planned to spend an hour and spent six!”

The event, hosted by the A.D. Makepeace Company at its Tihonet Village headquarters, is Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10, $5 for seniors and military, and children under 7 are admitted free. Parking is free, and many children’s activities are free.
