Pine Fest, the multicultural celebration of the magical woods around us, will be celebrating its fourth year Saturday, May 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Charge Pond in Myles Standish State Forest.

A day full of entertainment! Big Ryan’s Tall Tales—a favorite of young children—starts at 11 a.m., followed at noon by the first of two small animal shows by the South Shore Natural Science Center. Marla’s Raptors are un-hooded at 12:45, and the small animal show repeats at 2 p.m.

The people of the Aquinnah Wampanoag will be setting up a fish camp along the shore of Charge Pond again this year, building it from pine boughs in the morning, starting fires and smoking fish. If you are still around at the end of the day head down to the pond and have a taste of smoked striper or bluefish (or fresh smoked herring).

Also cooking, though not edible at the end, will be a 19th century charcoal pit—designed to imitate the hundreds of similar pits that, 200 years ago, darkened the skies outside of Plymouth. Charcoal was once an important ‘crop’, filling the purses of Pilgrim descendants with coin and filling the dozens of local forges with a product that allowed them to produce iron objects including cannonball and shot for a growing country.

This year you can add the squeals of Barnabas and his sister Lucille to the music of Pine Fest; two rescued pot bellied pigs that now call the Black Feather Horse Rescue farm their home. Darlene Nickerson, Black Feather’s founder, will be bringing the two gregarious pot-bellied pigs and a pair of miniature horses as well, joining a menagerie of wild things that you will find at this year’s Pine Fest.

Nemasket Kayak Center will offer free kayaking lessons in the pond. Buckley Family Archery will teach you how to use a bow and arrow. Over 40 activity stations will provide hours of fun, hands-on activities for children and adults! For the more serious, Meet the Scientist (this year, famed restoration ecologist Tim Simmons) and much more. Ethnic foods by Tasteful Adventures and Ice Cream treats from Perry’s Last Stand will make your day complete. Beachhouse Baking and the Plymouth Woodchucks toy makers will join a host of other vendors of natural and homemade products.

Pine Fest is meant to be a regional exploration of the forested ecosystem that stretches from Southeastern Massachusetts to Cape Cod and the Islands. Bring your bike if you like, park at Fearing Pond (about a mile away) and pedal to Pine Fest on a paved path through the woods. There are also a number of wonderful hikes in the area, many passing by the ecosystems’ unique coastal plain ponds and vernal pools.

Pine Fest is free for the public, and takes place in one of the most beautiful spots in the area. If the sun is out you can swim in Charge Pond. Though it’s deep in the woods, and part of the Myles Standish State Forest, Charge Pond has a variety of amenities including bathrooms, which make it perfect for a family outing. Pine Fest is fully accessible.

The 5 ^th Annual Rogo Cup to Cure SMA Golf Tournament and online fundraiser is held in memory of Baby Mark Butler (6 months old) and in honor of Billy Spiege (15)l and Lauren Rogowicz (23), with one goal: to find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The Rogo Cup to Cure SMA Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Atlantic Country Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The day will entail a shotgun start at 12:00pm , goody bag, contests, dinner, silent auction, raffles and awards.

 

SMA is a disease that robs people of strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants.

Art on the Green showcases handmade arts and crafts on display and for sale by area makers. Enjoy live steel drum music, face painting, balloon artists along with many food options. 

Kingston Collection and Pyramid Management Group are proud to present a World War II Expo that will take place during the upcoming Father’s Day Weekend.  The Expo will take place June 17^th and 18^th in Center Court at Kingston Collection in Kingston, Massachusetts.   The Expo is free to all and will offer an engaging educational experience of World War II.  Reenactors of both Allied and Axis forces will be on hand to discuss their World War II era uniforms, equipment and artifacts.  This two day World War II Expo will feature a glimpse into the most destructive war in human history.

The US Army Paratroopers will be taking over the space near center court at Kingston Collection with tactical weapons on display featuring: M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson M1A1, Springfield M1903, K98, MP40, M1911A1 pistol and Luger. A small field office will be set up and will be inspected by “General Eisenhower“ at 3:00 and will be available to meet the public, take photos or to sign autographs.

In August 2016, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts enacted H.4568, An Act to Promote Energy Diversity, which authorized the procurement of approximately 1,200 MW annually of hydropower and on-shore wind.
To meet this need, Emera Energy is proposing to build the Atlantic Link Project -- a proposed high voltage direct current (HVdc) transmission line that will deliver 900 megawatts (MW) of clean energy from Atlantic Canada directly to Massachusetts, through a landing spot in Plymouth.
